Equinor will tow Siemens Gamesa turbines to Norwegian port in four-month operation at offshore wind farm.

To ensure the efficiency and safety of operations, the Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind farm will undergo an outage of up to four months this year to carry out heavy maintenance in the turbines. The Siemens Gamesa machines, which have been in operation at the park for seven years, require work due to operational data revealed by Equinor. The turbines will be towed to the port of Wergeland in Norway, where the Wergeland group in Gรผlen will carry out the necessary work. โ€˜Based on operational data, we identified the need to heavy maintenance in wind farm turbines. This is the first operation of its kind for a floating farm and the safest method of doing this is to tow the turbines to shore and carry out the operations in protected conditions,' said an Equinor spokesperson. โ€˜We will do this over the next summer and it is expected to take three to four months.

Furthermore, Equinor stated that the work will be carried out in close collaboration with turbine supplier Siemens Gamesa. The Hywind Scotland floating wind farm has remained operational at high capacity factors for the past six to seven years and is considered an innovative pilot project. The necessity of heavy maintenance demonstrates the importance of ensuring the continuity of operations and reliability of offshore turbines.

Heavy maintenance of turbines in offshore wind farm stops operations
Heavy maintenance on the turbines installed at the Gรผlen offshore wind farm in Norway has required a temporary halt to operations. The Wergeland group, responsible for managing the wind farm, announced that the Siemens Gamesa machines will undergo intensive maintenance, including component replacement and extensive repairs.

O works contract of robust maintenance was awarded to a turbine supplier specialist, who will carry out the services on site. The depth of water in the region of the Gรผlen offshore wind farm allows maintenance teams access to the towed turbines to the port of Wergeland, where work will be carried out.

A offshore wind energy It is an important source of energy generation in the region, contributing significantly to the supply of electricity. Interrupting operations for heavy turbine maintenance is an essential step to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the wind farm.

The Wergeland group highlighted the importance of maintaining operational data updated during the maintenance period in order to monitor the performance of the turbines after the work is completed. The company also highlighted the long-term benefits of this maintenance, which aims to extend the life of the turbines and ensure the reliability of offshore wind power generation at the site.
