For the first time, the the Ministry of Education (MEC): offers a Free Professional Master's Degree in Arts (PROFARTES), exclusively intended for basic education teachers.

O PROFARTES, a free master's degree offered by the MEC, stands out as a program that aims to strengthen the role of arts teachers in public schools.
Aimed exclusively at practicing teachers, the master's degree promotes a practical and theoretical approach that promises to elevate arts education in Brazil.
The program is a response to the growing demand for more qualified educators, capable of exploring artistic languages in the classroom with in-depth knowledge and updated pedagogical technique.
Structure and objectives of PROFARTES
With 24 months duration and a total workload of 420 hours, PROFARTES combines face-to-face classes with distance activities.
There are 360 hours of face-to-face classes e 60 hours of online activities, allowing teachers to adjust the schedule to their work routines.
This flexibility helps educators focus on the course without compromising classroom time.
The MEC structured the course with the aim of enabling teachers to develop an in-depth understanding of various artistic languages and improve their pedagogical practices.
Among the expected skills are criticism and analysis of different artistic languages., such as visual arts, theater, dance and music.
This training is specially designed to transform arts education into a richer and more meaningful process for public school students.
According to the MEC, the program aims, in addition to training teachers, to encourage them to become leaders in the transformation of arts education in Brazil, enabling them to expand their skills, experiences and capacity for pedagogical innovation.
With an approach that integrates theory and practice, PROFARTES values the importance of the arts in the integral development of students, considering their expression skills, creativity and critical sense.
Who can apply? See the criteria
To participate in PROFARTES, the candidate must be a practicing arts teacher in basic education and have a degree recognized by the MEC.
These requirements are essential to ensure that professors Enrollees are aligned with the program's objectives and can bring to the classroom a critical and practical view of art as a pedagogical tool.
Proof of work in the arts field is also mandatory., being an essential requirement for enrollment.
This measure ensures that professionals seeking a master's degree really have experience and interest in developing quality artistic education in schools.
Distribution of vacancies and participating institutions
For the first half of 2025, PROFARTES will make available 296 vacancies distributed among higher education institutions (HEIs) in different regions of the country. Among the participating universities are:
- State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC) – 12 vacancies
- Paulista State University (UNESP) – 22 vacancies
- Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) – 20 vacancies
- University of Brasilia (UnB) – 32 vacancies
- Federal University of Ceará (UFC) – 14 vacancies
- Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) – 19 vacancies
- Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) – 20 vacancies
These and other institutions, including universities in the North and Northeast regions, such as Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) and Regional University of Cariri (URCA), expand the program's offering, promoting access to teachers from different regions and socioeconomic contexts.
According to the MEC, the distribution of places follows a model that considers the specificities of each location, with quota policies to facilitate access for underrepresented groups.
This model aims to include even more teachers who work in less favored areas.
Selection process: two evaluation phases
The selection process for PROFARTES is composed of two rigorous phases.
In the first stage, the candidate must present a Descriptive Memorial and a Research Project, which will be evaluated by a panel of experts.
Projects must be consistent with the course profile, addressing topics that can be applied in educational practice.
In the second phase, the Argumentation Test, where the candidate defends his project orally.
This moment allows the panel to verify the candidate's understanding of the chosen topic, its clarity and its alignment with the PROFARTES objectives.
According to the MEC, the selection aims to ensure that the chosen teachers have a profile aligned with the course's focus and a solid commitment to artistic education.
