A Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) published Notice No. 14/PPGE/2024, opening selection for Master's and Doctorate courses in Education through the Postgraduate Program in Education (PPGE).

In total, there are 115 free places, distributed between broad competition and affirmative action modalities.
Classes are scheduled to begin in the second semester of 2025 (Master's) and the first semester of 2026 (Doctorate).
Research lines
PPGE/UFSC offers courses focusing on different aspects of education, distributed among six Research Lines:
- Education and Communication (ECO)
- Education and Childhood (EI)
- Sociology and History of Education (SHE)
- Subjects, Educational Processes and Teaching (SUPED)
- Work, Education and Politics (TEP)
- Philosophy of Education (FIL)
These lines cover fundamental themes for the training of researchers and professionals committed to innovation and the improvement of Brazilian education.
Additionally, students have access to interdisciplinary projects and national and international partnerships that expand their academic opportunities.
Vacancies and categories
The notice provides 63 places for the Master's degree and 52 for the Doctorate, with part of them destined for affirmative actions:
- 13 vacancies for the Master's degree and 11 for the Doctorate for candidates who self-declare as black, brown, indigenous and quilombola.
- 4 vacancies for the Master's degree and 4 for the Doctorate for people with disabilities, refugees and candidates in situations of economic vulnerability.
- 2 vacancies for the Master's degree and 2 for the Doctorate for trans people.
If there are remaining vacancies in these categories, they will be redistributed for broad competition, as provided for in the notice. This quota system reinforces UFSC's commitment to inclusion and the democratization of higher education.
Who can apply?
To apply for the vacancies, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Master's degree: have a degree recognized by the MEC.
- Doctoral Program: have a Master's degree recognized by CAPES.
- Candidates in the final stages of their course may participate, provided they present a declaration of completion at the time of enrollment.
The process also includes vacancies for historically and socially underrepresented groups, promoting a more inclusive selection process.
Furthermore, foreign students may apply as long as they meet the documentary and academic requirements established in the notice.
What will the selection process for the master's and doctorate be like?
The selection will take place in two eliminatory stages:
- Analysis of the research project — Assessment of theoretical-methodological consistency, clarity in defining the problem and project viability.
- Discussion and analysis of the Lattes CV — Presentation of the project and descriptive report, in addition to the analysis of the candidate’s academic trajectory.
To be approved, the candidate must achieve a minimum grade of 6,0 for broad competition e 5,0 for affirmative action.
In addition to these criteria, it is recommended that candidates prepare in advance, studying the lines of research and work developed by PPGE professors.
This increases the chances of a successful application.
