In a world where English dominates areas such as technology, business, science and tourism, this skill has ceased to be a differential and has become a necessity.

After all, having access to first-hand information, communicating with people from different cultures and expanding professional horizons are just some of the benefits of mastering the most spoken language in the world.

Now, what if you could start this journey without spending a dime and with total flexibility? Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES) has open registration for the FIC Basic English Course, a unique opportunity for those who want to learn English for free and completely online.

All in all, they are 250 vacancies available, with classes starting in April 2025.

How does the free English course offered by IFES work?

The course, in the Distance Learning (EAD) modality, is aimed at beginners in the language who want to take their first steps safely and with quality support.

With a workload of 60 hours, the program covers everything from basic fundamentals to practical content that helps develop essential communication skills.

In addition, the student receives a recognized certificate of completion, which adds value to the CV and can be a differentiator in selection processes or professional promotions.

What will you learn?

According to the notice published by IFES, the FIC Basic English course has a comprehensive program content, ideal for those who have never had contact with the language or want to reinforce basic concepts.

Check out the main topics:

  • Possessive pronouns and essential verbs;
  • Alphabet and numbers from 1 to 100;
  • Prepositions of place and definite article;
  • Wh-questions and vocabulary about colors;
  • Seasons, months and days of the week;
  • Verb tenses: present continuous and present simple;
  • Adjectives, countable and uncountable nouns;
  • Frequency adverbs and everyday vocabulary (such as furniture, furnishings and professions).

The content is organized in such a way as to ensure that the student understands not only the grammatical rules, but also the practical use of the language in everyday life.

Who can apply?

To participate, you must have the complete primary education, access to a computer with internet and a desire to learn.

According to the notice, registrations are open until the day February 14, 2025 and must be done through the SIGAA Academic platform.

Furthermore, it is essential that the candidate sends the documents requested in the notice.

The process is simple and all the necessary material can be consulted directly on the official IFES website.

How will the selection process be?

The selection of candidates will be carried out through a electronic draw, which will occur on the day February 18, 2025, at 15h.

After this stage, the final list of those who qualified will be published in March 17th, 2025 on the IFES portal.

Those approved must access the first subject within a period of up to five days after the start of classes, scheduled for April 2025.

Anyone who fails to meet this deadline will have their place automatically reallocated to another candidate.

Distribution of available vacancies and centers

IFES made available 250 vacancies, distributed equally among five regional hubs.

Each center will have 50 places, ensuring greater reach and opportunities for students from different locations in Espírito Santo. The participating centers are:
