Aircraft carriers are largest and most powerful vessels of the United States Navy, designed to project air power and conduct surface warfare operations. Each aircraft carrier costs more than 13 billion dollars and undergoes a series of rigorous tests before entering service.

Building an aircraft carrier is a complex process that involves assembling modules called “super lifts”, each weighing between 80 and 900 tons. These modules are built separately and then joined and welded into the correct position. The construction of an aircraft carrier can take several years to complete.

After being built, the United States Navy aircraft carrier undergoes sea trials, where all its functions and systems are evaluated in real conditions.

These tests include navigation maneuvers, aircraft launches, landing and takeoff operations, and resistance tests to different weather and sea conditions.

One of the most impressive tests is the impact test, where explosives are detonated near the aircraft carrier to simulate enemy attacks. This test verifies the strength of the ship's structure and the ability of safety systems to protect the crew and aircraft on board. In 2021, the USS Gerald R. Ford, one of the newest aircraft carriers, underwent this type of testing.
