Chinese automaker Huawei has filed a lawsuit against a social media influencer after he posted negative reviews of its Maextro S800 luxury sedan. The company claims the comments damaged the vehicle's image and is seeking legal redress, reigniting discussions about freedom of expression on social media.
The dispute between Huawei and a car influencer has taken on unexpected proportions. The Chinese car giant technology has filed a $140 lawsuit against the content creator known as Racing Frappuccino following criticism of the Maextro S800 luxury sedan.
Controversial comparisons
It all started with a series of videos released by Huawei. The brand compared the Maextro S800 to the Mercedes Maybach S680.
One of the tests involved performance when driving over potholes. In another video, both vehicles drove through a shallow lake filled with water, glass and sand.

The result favored the S800. The Huawei model passed without leaving a trace. The Maybach, on the other hand, broke the glass and splashed water.
The company highlighted the Chinese car's superior performance, focusing on driving comfort and the Turing Dragon Architecture, an intelligent platform that combines sensors, central control and autonomous learning.
Criticism and response
Racing Frappuccino posted a video on Weibo criticizing the test, saying the results were “carefully calculated” using mathematical formulas.
He claimed that Huawei adjusted the speed and weight of the car to ensure good performance. The influencer said that the depth of the lake — exactly 4,5 cm — was ideal for the S800, but not for the Maybach.
The blogger also suggested that the video does not reflect the true comfort of the vehicle. In an ironic tone, he stated that the action was marketing aimed at the patriotic upper middle class, which usually supports national brands. The video had a great impact.
Process and counterattack
Huawei then sued the influencer for defamation and asked for $140 in damages. In response, Racing Frappuccino said it will sue Huawei for $340.
The influencer even posted another video, in an apologetic but ironic tone. He imitated Huawei's official presentation style, which was interpreted by many as a new provocation.
