In the first half of this year alone, 51 transport infrastructure works were delivered throughout the country by the Federal Government. These are works that improve logistics and bring more efficiency and safety to road, rail, air and water transport. Federal investment in the period was more than R$ 3 billion in new undertakings and in the resumption of stopped works. The balance was disclosed on Friday (2), by the Ministry of Infrastructure.

During the period, it was possible to deliver restoration and completion of highways, build port facilities and invest in airport improvements. In the first six months, R$ 18,89 billion in investments were contracted. Tarcísio also says that one of the ministry's objectives is to integrate the territory, take logistics to people who need it, internalize this logistics, make those productive centers more efficient, induce development in those less developed regions.

Highways, railways, airports and ports

From January to June, 927 kilometers of paved, duplicated and rebuilt highways were delivered. In 2021, there was a growth of 13,7% in rail freight transport and the idea is to arrive in 2035 with a participation of almost 40% of the rail transport modal in transport.

At airports, R$ 130 million were invested in improvements at the airports of Foz do Iguaçu (PR) and Navegantes (SC). In ports and waterways, R$ 35 million were spent on initiatives, such as the resumption of operations at the Sobradinho lock, on the São Francisco River.

In April of this year, the so-called Infraweek yielded new concessions. How much has Brazil secured in investments this year?

“We have gone a long way towards attracting private investment, it is fundamental in a scenario of fiscal restrictions for us to achieve our objective, which is to reduce the infrastructure gap. The April auctions were a success. About we auctioned 22 airports, one railroad, five port terminals. We ended the month with a highway and, in April alone, we contracted R$ 30 billion in new investments. In total, since the beginning of President Bolsonaro's government, from 2019 to now, there have been 70 assets auctioned. There are more than BRL 80 billion in contracted investments. This will generate, at the end of the day, a very large number of direct and indirect jobs and jobs due to the income effect.”

Was the Brazilian model of concessions attractive to investors?

"Undoubtedly. Investors highly praised the way we share the risk. Our modeling today, the Brazilian models are among the most sophisticated in the world and that is why we were able to attract investors in the infrastructure and we exceeded expectations in each auction held.”
