This Monday (9), the MEC launches a free 120-hour distance learning course aimed at training teachers in inclusive education. With an innovative methodology and issuing a certificate, the program promises to impact 1,25 million teachers, promoting equity in classrooms and strengthening inclusion in Brazil.
A new opportunity is about to transform the educational scenario in Brazil. This Monday (9), the the Ministry of Education (MEC): will launch an innovative and free course aimed at basic education teachers.
With the promise of serving 1,25 million professionals, the program's main focus is to promote inclusive pedagogical practices and strengthen special education in public and private schools in the country.
The launch event will be held at Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), at 9 am, and will be broadcast live on the MEC's official YouTube channel.

According to the Ministry, the proposal is a historic milestone for continuing education in Brazil, offering tools that align teaching practice with the principles of equity and inclusion.
What will the course be like?
With a workload of 120 hours, Advanced Course in Special Education from the Perspective of Inclusive Education will be carried out entirely in the distance learning (EaD) format.
According to the MEC, the training will be divided into four modules, combining synchronous and asynchronous activities.
The contents were carefully planned to address fundamental topics, such as:
- Historical and legal aspects of special education;
- Human development and inclusive education;
- Accessible Curriculum and Technologies;
- Inclusive pedagogical practices, focusing on the use of adapted teaching resources.
Classes will take place at Collaborative Virtual Learning Environment (Avacapes), a platform developed by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes).
In addition, participants will receive official certificates issued by the Ministry of Education itself.
Target audience and expected impact
The course, considered the largest continuing education program ever developed in the area of inclusive education in Brazil, is aimed primarily at teachers who work in regular classrooms.
According to the MEC, the idea is to train them to meet both collective demands and the individual needs of students, promoting fairer and more accessible education for all.
This training is the result of a strategic partnership between Secretariat of Continuing Education, Youth and Adult Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion (Secadi/MEC) and Open University of Brazil (UAB).
According to experts, the program seeks to fill historical gaps in teacher training, creating a school environment that values diversity and inclusion.
Launch event will feature experts
This Monday's event will be attended by important authorities, such as representatives from the MEC, Capes and UFRRJ.
Will also participate leaders of the National Union of Municipal Education Directors (Undime) and National Council of Education Secretaries (Consed), as well as renowned experts in the field of inclusive education.
After the opening ceremony, there will be a live-streamed inaugural lecture and a discussion circle exclusive to in-person participants.
According to the MEC, the program was designed to inspire teachers and educational managers to join the training.
Why is this initiative so relevant?
Inclusive education still faces significant challenges in Brazil, mainly due to the lack of adequate training for teachers.
As pointed out by the MEC, many teachers do not have access to training that prepares them to deal with diversity in the classroom, which harms the learning of students with disabilities, global development disorders or high abilities.
“Inclusive education is essential to ensure that all students have equal opportunities for learning and development,” reinforced a representative of Secadi/MEC during the dissemination of the program.
How to participate?
Interested parties should attend the launch event and wait for instructions on the registration process, which will be announced at official website of the Ministry of Education and on social networks.
Classes are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2024.
This training is another important step towards a more inclusive education system, where no student is left behind.
