Free postgraduate course in Portuguese for the deaf has 40 vacancies open by the MEC
The National Institute of Education for the Deaf (INES), in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MEC), has just announced the opening of 40 vacancies for the lato sensu postgraduate course in Portuguese Language: Reading and Writing in Teaching for the Deaf, scheduled to start in February 2025. Half of the vacancies are reserved for deaf candidates and the other half for hearing candidates, respecting parity in the selection process. How does the MEC selection process work?

In this stage, candidates must write a text of three to four pages or send a video in Libras lasting between 10 and 15 minutes, addressing issues related to teaching reading and writing to the deaf. This is a qualifying and eliminatory stage, where candidates who obtain a score equal to or higher than 7,0 will be classified for the second phase.

The second stage will be an in-person interview, scheduled for November 11-14, 2024, at INES headquarters. Candidates eligible to participate in the interview will be called from a list published on the institute's official website on November 10, 2024. The interview will be conducted by an evaluation committee and will have the assistance of sign language interpreters for deaf candidates.
Who can participate and what are the requirements?
This free course is aimed at graduates in the areas of Literature, Pedagogy, Speech Therapy, Communication, or related areas. All candidates must present proof of completion of a higher education course recognized by the MEC - Ministry of Education, at the time of registration. For deaf candidates, it will be necessary to present a medical report proving hearing loss, in accordance with the terms of Decree No. 5.296/2004.
In addition, all participants must ensure a minimum attendance of 75% in all subjects of the course to obtain the certificate of completion. The minimum average to pass each subject is 7,0, and students will have up to six additional months after the end of classes to submit the Course Conclusion Project (Undergraduate Research).
