New details about MSC's future fleet of container ships have been revealed, despite the company's secrecy efforts. Ordered from China's CIMC Group, the natural gas transport vessels will be delivered between 2025 and 2026.

While the Mediterranean Heavy Transport Company (MSC) is keeping key information about the project under wraps, new updates on its future fleet of container ship are being released gradually. The natural gas transport ships, ordered from the CIMC Group, will be equipped with the largest fuel storage tanks in the international maritime market.

MSC's new containership fleet project will feature the largest natural gas storage tanks and a 5% reduction in fuel consumption in activities

The maritime company MSC has been seeking to keep as much information as possible confidential about its project for the new container vessels planned for the coming years.

However, new updates on some ship fleet details have been released to the global market.

The project is being spearheaded by Zhoushan Changhong, a joint venture between privately owned Jiangsu Xin Chang Jiang Group and China International Marine Containers Group (CIMC Group).

The Chinese company confirmed the order for the company's new fleet, which will be used to transport natural gas in the international market.

According to information from the segment, the design of the vessels was on behalf of the CIMC Ocean Engineering Design and Research Institute (CIMC ORIC). The delivery forecast for MSC container ships is between the years 2025 and 2026.

As for the technical details of the ships, they will be 335 meters long, 45,6 meters wide and will have a molded depth of 25,0 meters, in addition to a draft of 12,5 meters.

In addition, the vessels designed by the CIMC Group will have the largest natural gas storage tanks on the market today. fuels.

This will allow the new fleet of container ships to carry out transport operations from China to Europe or from China to the US on gas mode.

As a result, there will be a reduction of up to 5% in fuel consumption during packing list, contributing to minimizing the environmental impacts of operations.

CIMC Group highlights that the new fleet of container ships will feature state-of-the-art technology to enhance natural gas operations

According to MSC's design information, the new ships will feature an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) 40% lower than the baseline emissions from IMO.

In this way, they will be able to operate in the healthy range of carbon emissions until the year 2040, being ahead of current vessels on the market.

Yin Xunbin, general manager of CIMC ORIC, also reinforced that the container ship project will have state-of-the-art technologies to enhance activities.

The main feature of the ships is the dual-fuel propulsion, which allows them to run on both LNG and conventional fuel.

According to the executive, MSC insisted on faster speeds and lower fuel consumption in the operating range on Services of natural gas.

Therefore, it was necessary to develop an even more modern design, without neglecting the commitment to polluting emissions.

They are even equipped with a range of energy saving and safety features.

Now, MSC will continue to work closely with the CIMC Group on the development of its new natural gas container ships.
