The green step: Manaus receives its first electric bus and aims for decarbonization

Manaus is no joke when it comes to sustainable innovation. The city has just taken a green leap, putting its first electric bus on the streets.

The 500 U Low Entry model is not just any bus: it is mounted on a Mercedes-Benz chassis and was developed by Eletra – Electric traction technology. The vehicle is already running strong on the route between the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) and the center of the capital.

The environmental impact of the new bus

Zero emissions. That's right, you did not misread. The bus has powerful batteries that not only prevent pollutant emissions but also guarantee a range of up to 250 kilometers. Not bad, huh?

Comfort with Mercedes-Benz badge

Don't think sustainability is the only focus here. With space for 70 people and wheelchair availability, the bus also offers air conditioning and air suspension from Mercedes-Benz. In other words, in addition to being good for the planet, it is also a luxury for passengers.

Walter Barbosa, director of Bus Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, celebrated the initiative in his words. According to him, Manaus is in tune with environmental preservation and the renewal of the urban fleet, especially with the adoption of Euro 6 models that drastically reduce pollutant emissions.

Get to know Eletra – Electric traction technology

Eletra is a Brazilian company specialized in electric traction technology for the public transport sector. With decades of experience, the company has been a pioneer in introducing cleaner and more efficient solutions in urban mobility, including electric and hybrid buses.

Eletra's difference lies in its approach towards sustainability. The company does not see environmental issues as a simple marketing topic, but rather as an integral part of its corporate mission.

By opting for technologies that drastically reduce pollutant emissions, Eletra contributes to improving air quality in cities and mitigating the effects of climate change.
