More than two thousand jobs will be created with the creation of two new Maratá factories. With a huge investment of millions, the company plans to expand its focus to new areas in the market.
O Marata Group, known for its strong presence in the Brazilian market, is betting big on Sergipe with a mega investment of R$700 million. The plan? To open two new factories in the state: one focused on pasta production and the other on cookies. These new plants promise to boost the local economy, with the creation of more than two thousand empregos direct and indirect. And it doesn’t stop there! The project is part of a strategic plan that reinforces the company’s commitment to the development of the region.
Maratá, a success story from Sergipe
Founded in 1962, the José Augusto Vieira Business Group, better known as Marata Group, began its journey in Sergipe and is now a reference in several areas. With seven active factories, the group operates in segments such as the food industry, civil construction, agriculture and even trade and export. With more than 5.300 employees, the company is one of the largest employers in the region and continues to grow.
Maratá recently sold its coffee and tea sector to the Dutch giant Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE Peet's), the world's largest company in the sector. This change allowed the company to focus on new areas and investments, such as the pasta and biscuit factories that are on the way.

Mega investment in factories and expansion
O mega investment in Sergipe is divided into two major projects. The first factory will focus on the production of pasta and will be installed in the new Industrial District of São Cristóvão, on the banks of the BR-101. With an investment of more than R$300 million, the factory is expected to be in operation by 2026.
The second plant, focused on the production of cookies, is in the study phase and will be built in the municipality of Lagarto. This project involves an even larger investment, of approximately R$400 million. Together, the two factories will create more than two thousand empregos, moving the economy local and further strengthening the Maratá Group's position in the national market.
Government support and tax incentives
The success of this mega investment would not be possible without the support of the Government of Sergipe, which, through Sergipe Industrial Development Program (PSDI), has offered tax and location incentives for companies that wish to expand or establish themselves in the state. The PSDI was fundamental for the installation of the group's wheat mill, which began operating in May of this year in the new Industrial District of São Cristóvão.
According to the CEO of the Maratá Group, Frank Vieira, natural gas is one of the key factors for these new factories to operate efficiently. “The Sergipe gas company must make it possible to implement natural gas in both the São Cristóvão Industrial District and the municipality of Lagarto,” Vieira emphasized during the presentation of the project to Governor Fábio Mitidieri.
The governor, in turn, showed his full support for the project, highlighting the importance of the Maratá Group for the economic development of Sergipe. “We are excited about the benefits that these projects will bring to the people of Sergipe, from job creation to strengthening our economy,” said Mitidieri.
Economic impact and job creation
With more than two thousand empregos to be generated by the new factories, the economic impact will be considerable for the region. The Secretary of State for Economic Development, Valmor Barbosa, reinforced the importance of the project: “The maratha is a Sergipe brand that greatly contributes to the development of our state. The government will continue to offer a competitive business environment, with tax and location incentives.”
The new pasta factory and biscuit plant not only create direct jobs, but also strengthen the local production chain. From suppliers to distributors, the entire ecosystem around these industries benefits, generating more empregos and growth opportunities for other companies in the region.
Maratá Group's social commitment
In addition to being a powerhouse in the industrial sector, the Maratá Group is also known for its social commitment. The company develops several actions aimed at the local community through the José Augusto Vieira Foundation, created in 1993. The foundation offers free early childhood and primary education, in addition to actions aimed at generating empregos and income in partnership with institutions such as Senai and Senac.
In recent years, the group has allocated more than R$600 to social projects, such as the donation of a Training Center for Lar Feliz, in Juazeiro (BA), which aims to transform the lives of young people in situations of social vulnerability. This type of action shows that, in addition to generating empregos, Maratá is also committed to the social development of the regions where it operates.
With these new mega investments, the Maratá Group strengthens its presence in Sergipe and consolidates itself as one of the main players in the state's economic development. The new pasta and biscuit factories are just another step in the company's growth trajectory, which continues to innovate and invest in the future.
