Mataripe Refinery launches environmental application that reduces inspection time by 75% and improves environmental indicators, integrating seven monitoring systems.
The Mataripe Refinery, managed by Acelen, launched a new environmental application which promises to revolutionize operational efficiency in the management of environmental issues. This pioneering initiative in the oil and gas sector has managed to reduce the time needed to carry out inspections and make decisions by up to 75%, resulting in significant improvements in indicators of the environment.
O environmental application Mataripe Refinery integrates seven different monitoring systems, allowing for more comprehensive and faster analysis. This new tech not only speeds up processes, but also provides more accurate data, facilitating decision-making. More than just an innovation, this tool sets a new standard for the industry.
Acelen, an innovative company in the refining sector, has launched a new environmental application. This environmental application is a pioneering initiative in the oil and gas sector, designed to optimize processes and facilitate decision-making. Its use has resulted in a 75% reduction in the time spent on environmental patrols, increasing the effectiveness of actions and the reliability of operations.
Technology for the Environment
This environmental application integrates at least seven of the company's inspection systems into a single technological solution, ensuring greater monitoring accuracy. The use of this application is part of the initiatives of MonitorAcelen, one of the eight digital transformation programs of the company. These programs are essential to minimize the environmental impacts of refinery operations.

One of the most notable benefits is the high environmental and economic performance obtained through the application of operational technology. Since the beginning of Acelen's management in 2021, based on principles of Industry 4.0, the refinery is undergoing the largest modernization in its history. Daniel Rocha, Acelen's Environmental Manager, highlights that the environmental technician, in real time, can photograph possible risks in the industrial area, notify the responsible parties and generate monitoring protocols, which implies more effective decision-making. The company has promoted a fusion of sustainability, digitalization and acceleration in its operations.
Efficient Data Application
Since its implementation 8 months ago, this tool has already contributed to a 75% reduction in the time spent on environmental patrols, providing financial benefits and agility in taking internal actions. One of the main features of the environmental application is to provide accurate data on the location and intensity of incidents, facilitating quick and effective responses from those responsible. This solution was built using agile methodologies and is hosted on PDA devices (Personal Digital Assistants), and its operation via GPS ensures secure communication, regardless of the network connection.
Celso Ferreira, Acelen's Vice President of Operations, emphasizes that the application's focus is prevention and best practices, corroborating the synergy between innovation and operational gains. He also emphasizes that the implementation of pioneering initiatives is routine for Acelen teams. 'This could not be different in environmental protection, where the time between identification and action is crucial to minimize impacts. I congratulate the entire Acelen team for creating an effective method that takes our environmental care to a higher level. ESG in the veins is Acelen's DNA', concludes the executive.
Environmental and Technological Commitments
About Acelen, Mubadala Capital's energy company aims to be a major player in the energy transition. In less than three years in Bahia, taking over the management of the Mataripe Refinery, the company has already invested more than R$ 2 billion in the revitalization and recovery of the industrial plant. This was the largest modernization program carried out at the refinery, focused on safety, automation, reliability, efficiency and productive diversification, in addition to improving environmental indicators, water and energy efficiency.
Reaffirming its commitment to the environment, in July of this year, Acelen announced a joint venture for the construction of a 161MW solar complex in the semi-arid region of Bahia. The company is also developing the largest renewable fuel project in the country, aimed at producing SAF and HVO from macaúba, thus strengthening its role in the energy transition.
