Mato Grosso announces auction and plans new billion-dollar investments in infrastructure. More than 1.300 km of state highways will be paved, benefiting several sectors such as mining and tourism.
The government of Mato Grosso held an auction of 14 lots of state highways on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B4) last Friday (3). The auction followed the criteria of the lowest toll fee combined with an investment curve. Initially, 6 lots were announced, totaling 2.100 km of state highways and R$7,7 billion in investments. However, only 2 of them did not receive bids.
Find out which companies will invest in state highways from Mato Grosso
Lot 1, consisting of MT-338, MT-160, MT-242 and MT-220, was won by VF Gomes Participações Ltda, with a discount of 8,5% on the tariff. Lot 2 (MT-010, MT-160, MT-235, MT-249 and MT-480), with a discount of 2,3%, was won by the Rota de Produção Highway Consortium.

According to Governor Mauro Mendes (União), the privatization of state highways with billion-dollar investments was already planned because there were technical errors. In about a month, the government of Mato Grosso will provide a solution to this issue. It could be a new auction, the concession to Nova Rota do Oeste, which is already a concessionaire of state highways.
The understanding is that the tariff values established in the notice, which varied between R$10,74 and R$13,37, were not sufficient to compensate for the investments required for the lots in Mato Grosso. Lot 3 would require investments of R$1,2 billion with immediate contributions at the beginning of the contract, while lot 6 would require R$1,75 billion.

MT almost doubles the number of kilometers granted within the network
With the auction held this Friday, the state almost doubled the number of kilometers granted within the state highway network. So far, there are 1.417 km of highways granted distributed in 10 contracts.
Marcelo de Oliveria, Secretary of State for Infrastructure and Logistics, reinforces that concessions are essential for Mato Grosso to continue investing in concrete bridges and new asphalt, leveraging development for the entire population.
Oliveira states that, in the last six years, Mato Grosso has paved more than 4,5 kilometers of highways, however, it still has almost 20 km that need to be paved.
New asphalt brings improvements, but also increases maintenance costs. Concessions guarantee safe roads, allowing the State to continue investing where necessary.
