The State of Minas Gerais maintains its leading role in the generation of solar energy in Brazil, with new investments that promise to benefit thousands of residential consumers.
Minas Gerais reaffirms its prominent position on the national scene solar energy with the announcement of a robust investment in the sector. Omnigen Energy, a subsidiary of Appian Capital Advisory, will allocate R$387 million to the construction of 14 new solar parks in Minas Gerais.
The initiative will be carried out in partnership with the companies ECOM Energia Renováveis and CMU Energia, with an expected delivery of 114.880 MWh per year — a volume capable of supplying the consumption of approximately 62.900 homes. The energy will be distributed using the distributed generation model, which allows discounts on electricity bills for residential consumers, while promoting the use of renewable and sustainable sources.
Solar parks will be built in seven municipalities in Minas Gerais
The solar parks must be installed by the end of the first half of 2025 in seven cities: Prudente de Morais, Andradas, Santa Rita de Caldas, Araxá, Igarapé, Paraopeba and Pedro Leopoldo.

The choice for Minas Gerais is due to the state's attractions both geographically and tax-wise, reveals the CEO of CMU Energia, Walter Fróes,
“Minas Gerais is one of the pioneers in the solar energy sector and an interesting state to invest in, even because of the tax benefits”, explains Fróes.
The State offers ICMS exemption for photovoltaic solar energy, according to State Decree No. 48.506/2022, which extended the benefit until 2032. Initially, the incentive would end in December 2022, but it was extended as a way to further strengthen the clean energy sector in Minas Gerais.
Savings on your electricity bill and positive environmental impact
The new operation is expected to benefit between 600 and 700 consumers, who will be able to save up to 20% on their electricity bills. Walter Fróes emphasizes that the proposal combines economic advantages with a positive environmental impact.
“We estimate that consumers will receive discounts of 12% to 20% on their electricity bills. In addition to the benefits for their pockets, this type of investment also contributes to the advancement of the sustainable agenda, since it stimulates the production of clean energy,” he highlights.
The distributed generation (DG) model, in addition to democratizing access to solar energy, has been gaining strength by allowing consumers to become direct beneficiaries of the energy produced in small or medium-sized plants, as is the case with these new parks.
Minas Gerais records growth of over 1600% in installed solar energy capacity
O investment Omnigen Energy's launch follows in the wake of a growing movement of companies in the sector that see Minas Gerais as a strategic hub for solar energy.
According to data from the State Secretariat for Economic Development (Sede-MG), the installed capacity in the State jumped from 518,55 MW in 2018 to an impressive 9.001,79 MW in 2024, a growth of more than 17 times in just six years.
Previous projects, such as the Triângulo Project, have contributed significantly to this progress. Created by the companies A2 Empreendimentos and Solarmine, the project aims to build 11 solar parks in the Triângulo Mineiro region, with an investment of R$140 million.
The forecast is to generate 340 jobs and supply capacity for 38 thousand homes by July 2026.
“We are contributing to the zero carbon goal, driving a more sustainable and environmentally responsible economy. We should announce new investments in the state soon,” says José Afonso Queiroz, director of A2 Empreendimentos.
In addition to local initiatives, large national and international corporations have also been investing in solar energy in Minas Gerais. ArcelorMittal, for example, signed a contract with Atlas Renewable Energy for the construction of Parque Luiz Carlos, located in Paracatu, in the northwest of the state. The investment will be R$895 million, with an installed capacity of 269 MW and an estimated average production of 69 MW per year.
Minas Gerais leads the present and future of renewable energy
With tax incentives, favorable geographic potential and an increasingly attractive business environment, Minas Gerais is consolidating itself as one of the main destinations for investments in solar energy in Brazil.
The growth in installed capacity and the arrival of large projects reinforce the State's commitment to the energy transition and sustainable development.
By combining savings on electricity bills with environmental and social benefits, the advancement of solar energy in Minas Gerais is an example of how investment in renewable sources can transform local and regional realities.
