New Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid SUV debuts in 2025 with an impressive 300 hp of power and efficient consumption of 27 km/l, promising to revolutionize the automotive market.

Mitsubishi surprised the market in 2024 with the launch of the new Triton pickup truck, but is already preparing another big news for 2025: a new SUV aimed at the Brazilian market. The long-awaited new generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid has been confirmed for launch in Brazil, bringing back one of the most striking configurations of the midsize SUV. Check out the details already revealed about the new Japanese SUV and what to expect from this machine below.

Mitsubishi's new SUV hits the automotive market in the first half of 2025

This time, the new Japanese SUV will be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) only. This was the first plug-in hybrid car sold in Brazil, between 2014 and 2016. These are very rare cars that used a 2.0 gasoline engine and two electric engines that, together, generated 200 hp. The electric range of 52 km was great for the time.

Currently in its fourth generation, the Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid has been away from Brazil for two years, since the HPE Automotive, the brand's official representative in the country, has stopped importing the previous model.

During last year's Tokyo Motor Show (Japan), company executives commented that Mitsubishi's new SUV was in the works, without giving a date for its debut. Now, it is confirmed to hit the automotive market in the first half of 2025.

The Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid has changed in the generation change, now being made with the CMF-CD platform, developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, and which is also used by Nissan X-Trail. It is 4,70 meters long, 1,86 m wide, 1,74 m high and has a 2,70 m wheelbase and continues to be offered in five or seven-seater versions.

Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid promises to beat rivals by doing up to 27 km/l

Mitsubishi's new SUV for the Brazilian market uses a 2.4 naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 134 horsepower and 20,6 kgfm, working with two more electric motors (one at the front with 114 hp and 26 kgfm, and another on the rear axle with 134 horsepower and 19,9 kgfm) to deliver a total of 302 hp.

Mitsubishi talks about a autonomy in electric mode of 86 km when using the new 22,7 kWh batteries. The Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid reaches 100 km/h in just 7,6s, while the approved consumption is 27,2 km/h.l. The front electric motor is used as a complement to the main combustion engine, reducing the need to increase the RPM and, consequently, reducing fuel consumption.

There is even a series hybrid mode, in which the combustion engine only generates energy to power the electric motors, which are responsible for moving the Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid. Therefore, it can function as an electric car with an infinite battery and increases the precision of the 4×4 traction and the operation of its driving modes.

Interior and exterior design of Mitsubishi's new SUV

The design of the new model for the automotive market is inspired by the Dynamic Shield visual identity. It features a double headlight scheme, with a thin LED line at the top for daytime lighting and the main set just below.

The grille is painted black to create a contrast with the X-shaped chrome border. The rear still uses vertical taillights, but they are now much thinner.

The cabin is very familiar, featuring some elements seen in other cars of the brand, such as the steering wheel and the transmission lever. In the 2025 line, it received a new multimedia center, with a 12,3-inch screen as standard, and a new Yamaha sound system. The instrument panel is now digital, using a 12,3-inch display.
