Grupo Moura, a company that has been operating in the market for 65 years, has announced millionaire investments to build its factory that promises to generate hundreds of new jobs.
The Brazilian battery manufacturer, Grupo Moura, announced investments of R$ 600 million in its new factory, which will be installed in Belo Jardim (PE), with a capacity of 100 thousand tons of lead recycling per year, a material that will be used in the production news Moorish batteries. According to the group, the new factory will have the capacity to further expand this volume in the future, depending on market demand. In addition to new batteries, the unit promises to generate several jobs for the municipality.
New battery plant aims to meet high demand
With revenues of R$ 2 billion and sales of 10 million batteries in the last year, Grupo Moura makes them available to automakers, with half of the sector's share, and also to the aftermarket. The Group has seven factories that generate thousands of jobs, 6 of which are located in Brazil and another in Argentina.
There are around 6 jobs generated in these units and currently, for each new battery that the company sells, another used one returns to the company, being fully recycled in an existing factory of the group.

The purpose of the new factory, in addition to generating jobs, is to meet the demands of growth. According to Flávio Bruno, director of metals and sustainability at the company, recycled material is essential for Grupo Moura's business, where the metals used in the production process, such as tin and lead, for example, are noble and have an important weight in company costs. On the other hand, it also has the advantage of being completely reused. The plastic used in batteries is also recycled by the group.
New unit will begin battery production in 2023
The start of activities at the new unit is scheduled for December of next year and according to the Moura Group executive, the project has the flexibility to further expand its capacity, to up to 140 thousand tons, if necessary.
The plant will also meet ESG metrics, an acronym in English used for good environmental, governance and social practices, with all energy coming from renewable sources.
Completing 65 years of history in the market, Grupo Moura moves focusing on the transition of the automotive sector. For the future, Bruno claims that the company is preparing for the process of electrifying the vehicle fleet, with studies involving even hydrogen.
Grupo Moura invests BRL 1,6 billion in Belo Jardim
The company's investments of R$ 1,6 billion in Belo Jardim were important for the development of the only Brazilian ICT dedicated exclusively to research related to vehicle electrification and energy storage, the Instituto de Tecnologia Edson Mororó Moura (ITEMM), a major partner Moura's technology.
ITEMM has among its clients institutions such as CEMIG, ENEL, CPFL, partnerships with major Brazilian universities. Among the various ITEMM projects, the one that stands out is vehicular electrification in Brazil, which began with the development of the first electric truck in Brazil and Later, with a livelab installed at the Institute and which has the first charging station for electric cars installed in Belo Jardim, the charging tests of small electric cars were started.
Another project that the Moura Group has is the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), generated in the ITEMM that generates great savings during peak-hour use, avoiding power outages outside the hours when wind and solar power plant production stops, so that the company can fully recycle the batteries, ensuring an integrated and sustainable process with customers.
