Danish company Vestas chooses Rio Grande do Norte to launch an unprecedented professional qualification program in renewable energy.
The Danish multinational Vestas, a global reference in solutions for renewable energy, chose Rio Grande do Norte to implement its first professional qualification program in Brazil focused exclusively on the wind sector. The decision reinforces the leading role of the state, which concentrates 28,9% of the generation wind power national, according to company data.
Practical class at 756 MW complex marks the beginning of training
The technical training is carried out in partnership with SENAI-RN and lasts two years. The course is free and aimed at residents of communities neighboring the parks operated by Vestas in Brazil.
The first class brings together 66 students from Lagoa Nova and the region, who have already participated in practical activities at the Serra do Tigre Wind Complex, located in São Tomé (RN).

During the visit to the complex, considered one of the largest currently under construction in the country, students were able to follow the installation of the turbines and understand how wind turbines work.
The renewable energy project has an installed capacity of 756 megawatts (MW) and, according to Vestas, its operation will prevent more than a thousand tons of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere per year.
“The National Program for Professional Technical Training in Electromechanics aims to actively contribute to the development and preparation of young talents who live around the wind farms built and operated by Vestas in Brazil,” revealed the company.
Green jobs and local economic growth
In addition to the training, Vestas announced a package of initiatives that aims to strengthen the renewable energy sector in Brazil, including domestic production of high-tech turbines and partnerships to stimulate the production chain.
The proposal is in line with the estimate of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which predicts 38 million jobs in the clean energy sector by 2030.
In Brazil, 10% of global green jobs are already concentrated, making the country the second largest employer in the sector in the world.
Recent studies also reveal that the presence of wind farms has generated significant economic impacts: Brazilian municipalities with this type of investment had an average increase of 24,98% in GDP per capita, reaching 29,14% in the Northeast.
The interior of Rio Grande do Norte is an example of transformation through renewable energy
With the arrival of the training program, young people from communities like Lagoa Nova now see a promising future in the renewable energy sector.
Free technical training, combined with direct contact with large-scale projects, represents not only a gateway to the job market, but also an alternative for development in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte.
