New anti-sleep glasses technology aims to change the future of road safety
Anti-sleep glasses help drivers avoid falling asleep while driving by emitting an audible alert if they detect signs of drowsiness. They were created to be cheap, easy to use and increase road safety.

Students from Espírito Santo create low-cost technology to detect drowsiness and alert drivers.

An innovative project developed by three students from the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo could become a powerful weapon against road accidents. The anti-sleep glasses, created to detect signs of drowsiness at the wheel, were designed to be affordable and efficient, with an estimated production cost of just R$122, according to information from CNN Brasil.

Anti-sleep glasses technology targets road safety

The device was designed by Caleb Gomes Menguete Fabris, Henrique Velten da Silva and Natalia Dantas Sá, all students at IFES – Guarapari campus. Motivated by the high rates of accidents caused by fatigue, they developed equipment capable of emitting an audible alarm as soon as it detects signs of drowsiness in the driver.

According to the Brazilian Association of Traffic Medicine (Abramet), 42% of accidents on federal highways are related to drowsiness, behind only the combination of drinking and driving and speeding. The students believe that anti-sleep glasses can be an essential ally in reducing these worrying numbers.

The operation of anti-sleep glasses is simple and practical

The technology embedded in the anti-sleep glasses is straight to the point, as all good solutions should be: when it detects signs of fatigue, the device triggers an audible alert that gradually increases in volume, preventing sudden shocks for the driver. In addition, the glasses are equipped with a removable battery, which makes it easy to charge and replace with a spare.

According to CNN Brasil, the group took about two years to develop the prototype, but guarantees that today it would be able to produce the equipment in just one day, thanks to the experience acquired in the process.

Future of the project: expansion and search for sponsorship

The students' next step is to find sponsors to transform the prototype into a commercial-scale product. The intention is to improve the design, making it even more comfortable and attractive to the general public, without giving up on the idea of keeping the anti-sleep glasses as a low-cost solution.

This initiative not only rescues the traditional spirit of innovation made with passion and practice, as well as projecting a safer future for those who depend on the roads every day.
