Carlos Coelho Garcia takes over Sindenergia/MT with a focus on industrial development and electrical infrastructure in Mato Grosso.

During the inauguration ceremony of the new president of Sindenergia/MT, the challenges and opportunities related to the energy potential in the state of Mato Grosso were highlighted. Carlos Coelho Garcia, the newly appointed leader, emphasized the need to address these issues with innovative strategies, focusing on the advancement of Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (PCHs). At the same time, he stressed the importance of providing quality energy that will be a driver for the state's industrial growth.

The leader expressed his commitment to removing obstacles that prevent the full use of the vast reserves of the energy of Mato Grosso, aiming not only at local progress, but also at strengthening the electrical infrastructure. Reliable and affordable electricity is vital for industry and society. With a renewed team, the Construction, Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Energy and Gas union in the state is determined to promote initiatives that place Mato Grosso at the forefront of energy sustainability.

Inauguration of the New Board of Directors of Sindenergia

The new 2025/2027 three-year term of Sindenergia began with an inauguration ceremony on Thursday night (28), in the auditorium of the Federation of Industries of the State of Mato Grosso (FIEMT). This event brought renewed expectations for the energy sector in the state, with the presence of authorities, businesspeople and political leaders. They highlighted the relevance of the union in the energy sector in Mato Grosso, in addition to discussing future challenges. Names such as the President of Fiemt, Silvio Rangel, and prominent political figures such as the Chief Secretary of the Civil House Fábio Garcia and the Secretary of Economic Development, César Miranda, were present at the event.

The Energy Challenge of Mato Grosso

During his speech, the new president Carlos Coelho Garcia highlighted the entity's ongoing efforts to improve the quality of electricity that reaches industries. 'We are proposing to Aneel an electricity sector model that takes regional specificities into account,' he stated. Mato Grosso, which has industrial growth above the national average, faces significant challenges in electrical infrastructure, since the current model does not have the capacity to keep up with such development. This problem represents a crucial bottleneck for the progress of the industry in the state. Another focus of the speech was the high cost of thermals, which has impacted energy system costs.

Impacts and Solutions in the Electricity Sector

'Energy from thermoelectric plants costs more than twice as much as electricity from small hydroelectric plants, and this burden falls on the consumer through tariff flags, affecting industrial competitiveness,' said Garcia. He emphasized the need for a model that prioritizes renewable sources and more economical, such as hydroelectric plants. The Chief Secretary of the Civil House, Fábio Garcia, addressed the new president's mission: to guarantee quality and safe energy, favoring the industrial development of Mato Grosso. 'Despite abundant natural resources and potential in renewable sources, the state still suffers from limitations in the supply of electricity', he added, pointing to insufficient infrastructure as a barrier to development.

Energy Matrix and Renewable Sources

Carlos Coelho Garcia highlighted the strategic role of the Brazilian electricity sector, whose energy matrix is one of the cleanest, with more than 80% of generation coming from renewable sources, mainly hydroelectric. Even so, Mato Grosso only uses 10% of its considerable hydroelectric potential. 'The state has unique geographic characteristics, such as the Guarani Aquifer and rocks that are suitable for water retention, which could support the most efficient hydroelectric plants in the world, but it is faced with an outdated model that does not take advantage of these capacities,' he argued.

Clean Energy and Industrial Development

The president of Sindenergia stressed that Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (PCHs) can play a leading role in generating clean energy and creating jobs. However, their potential is limited by the lack of public policies. Garcia called for a model that values each energy source and learning from the processes. “We do not advocate the end of thermal power plants, but rather the harmonization of energy sources, with public policies that encourage the storage of electrical energy from hydroelectric or solar sources,” Garcia concluded.

Legacy and Partnerships in Electric Energy

The ceremony also included tributes to the new president and his family for their history of contributions to the state's development. For Silvio Rangel, president of FIEMT, Carlos Garcia represents the continuation of a significant family tradition. 'He brings experienced leadership and strategic vision. FIEMT is ready to support the challenges of the electricity sector,' Rangel assured. State deputy and former governor Júlio Campos advocated a collaboration with ANEEL, aiming at reviewing the current model. He praised Garcia's emphasis on the importance of hydroelectric plants in the energy matrix and the changes needed for the sector's progress. Legislators such as Carlos Avalone and Gisela Simona also highlighted the importance of clean energy for economic growth.

'Hydroelectric power,' Campos said, 'is the basis of our electricity matrix. We have resources that many people desire but that are insufficiently exploited. It is fair to reverse this situation, especially for remote areas like Colniza.'

And deputy Gisela Simona concluded: 'We need to guarantee quality electricity at fair prices, so Mato Grosso will continue to progress and consolidate itself as a national and international example.'
