The president of Petrobras stated in a recent lecture that he intends to focus on the production of offshore wind energy in the state. For Jean Paul Prates, this is the big bet for the growth of Rio Grande do Norte in the coming years.
In a recent lecture last Friday (24/02), at the Federation of Industries of Rio Grande do Norte (Fiern), the new president of Petrobras commented on the company's next steps in the potiguar state. Jean Paul Prates pointed out that the offshore frontier is the focus of the state-owned company in the region, especially the production of offshore wind energy. Green hydrogen projects are also in the company's sights to be developed in the coming years.
Petrobras sees great potential in Rio Grande do Norte for investments in the production of offshore wind energy and green hydrogen, says Prates
Petrobras' new president, Jean Paul Prates, announced during a recent visit to Rio Grande do Norte that the offshore frontier is the company's destination, and that it is already working on it for the next few years.
He wrote a lecture at an event held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Federation of Industries of Rio Grande do Norte (Fiern), at the organization's headquarters, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

The lecture, entitled “A vision of the future: prospects for the production of oil and renewable energies”, dealt with the future of the state of Rio Grande do Norte in terms of projects for the production of offshore wind energy and green hydrogen, in addition to other fuels.
These are Jean Paul Prates' main projects for the region, due to the high generation potential Energy efficiency in the area.
The state is a leader in wind energy production throughout Brazil, being the big bet for the implementation of the largest offshore wind farms in the coming years.
With the energy transition in effect, Petrobras has been seeking investments in alternative sources to oil, such as green hydrogen, which will also be the focus in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.
“Onshore wind is already extremely dense. Petrobras has already participated in this and eventually decided to leave, selling its four parks in Guamaré. Offshore is the frontier for Petrobras, where nobody has started operating yet and where the company feels good. RN is a pioneer in wind measurement in Brazil. It is where it has been safe to invest in wind power”, said Jean Paul silverware.
On his last visit to the state, Jean Paul Prates reinforced the permanence of the state-owned company in Rio Grande do Norte in 2023
With the advances in Petrobras' divestment project during the Bolsonaro Government, the expectation was for the company to leave several strategic regions in the Brazilian Northeast, including RN.
However, on his last visit to the state, Jean Paul Prates announced the suspension of transfers scheduled and triggered by the sale of assets in the Potiguar Basin.
He also said that the state would host one of the company's renewable energy departments in the coming months.
“Whoever is in RJ today, 99% of people only talk about oil, pre-salt. How is this individual going to think about offshore wind power? It doesn't have its ecosystem. What I am trying to bring to the company, and this is subject to approval, is that in each place there is an ecosystem of something that Petrobras does or should do”, he reinforced.
In this way, Petrobras' investments, under the command of Jean Paul Prates, in offshore wind energy projects become increasingly closer to reality in RN.
