Partnership between Petrobras and MIDR aims to contribute to regional development through oil and gas exploration on the Equatorial Margin.
The possible exploitation of oil and gas on the Equatorial Margin, in the Northern region of Brazil, has been gaining new developments. In a recent meeting, the Minister of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR), Waldez Góes, and the representative of Petrobras, Giles Azevedo, discussed the challenges and opportunities to boost the economic and social growth of the region.
The meeting focused on: establishing partnerships to strengthen territorial development, respecting local communities and the environment.
A new frontier of exploration on the Equatorial Margin
The Equatorial Margin extends between the states of Amapá and Rio Grande do Norte and is considered the last great exploratory frontier of oil and gas in deep and ultra-deep waters of Brazil.

With the potential to transform the local economy, the exploration of these resources in the mouth of the Amazon can generate significant investments and employment opportunities.
Waldez Góes highlighted the importance of the partnership between the government and Petrobras to prepare the region for this new cycle of growth.
“We coordinated a meeting so that we could have a breakdown of several agendas, both in relation to the environment, social and economic issues, knowledge and preparation of people to work in this production chain in the future,” said the minister.
Investments and impacts for the North region
Petrobras plays an essential role in implementing development policies for the Equatorial Margin, and this includes initiatives beyond oil and gas exploration.
According to Giles Azevedo, special advisor to the state-owned company's presidency, the investment strategy also aims to enhance regional wealth, respecting biodiversity and traditional communities.
“We value regional wealth, such as that found in the forest and on the coast. We value and help to consolidate economic activities that are already characteristic of the region and in a sustainable manner. We have to, in fact, prepare the region to receive these investments, which are not few. The region requires special care because of its biodiversity and traditional communities,” explained Azevedo.
The joint action between Petrobras and MIDR aims to carry out social programs and training projects professional journey for the local population, allowing workers in the region to have access to opportunities in the energy sector production chain.
Develop Amazon
The Desenvolve Amazônia program, which is expected to be launched in 2025, is one of the main initiatives aimed at fostering growth in the region.
“Develop Amazônia aims to ensure that all vocations, whether gas, oil, mining, forestry or fishing, are considered and aggregated in the development process, as well as in the distribution of wealth and in improving the quality of life”, stated Waldez Góes.
With the possibility of oil and gas exploration in the mouth of the Amazon, the preparation and structuring of the northern states becomes a priority to avoid negative impacts and ensure that the benefits reach the communities.
“Its exploration, once authorized, requires, from today, a series of measures and preparation, in addition to already generating a series of opportunities. This will be a permanent agenda here at the ministry,” reinforced Góes.
Regional and sustainable development with the exploration of the Equatorial Margin
The National Secretary for Regional and Territorial Development Policies, Adriana Melo, also participated in the meeting and highlighted the importance of aligning Petrobras projects with MIDR programs.
According to her, the oil and gas exploration on the Equatorial Margin must be a vector of economic growth, but with a focus on sustainability and improving the quality of life of the local population.
“Several MIDR development programs are in line with this perspective of boosting sectors based on oil and gas exploration, such as productive development with the National Integration Routes, the fish, timber, cassava, circular economy routes, etc. We also have interesting opportunities with the Intermediary Cities program, which has chosen the immediate Oiapoque region as a priority in the state of Amapá. In this region, biennial development agendas will be developed in conjunction with the new mayors,” said Adriana Melo.
Therefore, the partnership between Petrobras and MIDR will be crucial to ensure that development occurs in a planned and balanced manner, benefiting both the economy and local communities.
The challenge now is to align exploration strategies with sustainability principles, ensuring that the region reaps the rewards of this economic advancement without compromising its natural and cultural resources.

I really think it will transform the north of Brazil. For example, the favelas that we rarely see today will become more prominent. Criminal gangs will have more power, drugs that were rarely used before will become more powerful and dominant, and it will really transform the north of Brazil. The North and Northeast of the United States can attest to that.
It will be a mass destruction of all our natural resources in the northern region, it will be the final blow to our beloved Brazil, if we don't stop this **** Planaltino, we Brazilians will lose the last place where Brazil had something
Brazil belongs to Brazilians, but the mutt **** **** **** wants to donate all this wealth to the United States in exchange for jewelry for his family.
