Paris is preparing to host the 2024 Olympics with a staggering investment of more than $11 billion in megaprojects. The city is carrying out major works to ensure that the games, which begin on July 26 and are expected to attract more than 15 million visitors, are an absolute success.
Paris and Los Angeles were the finalist cities to host the 2024 and 2028 games, respectively, after other candidates withdrew due to financial difficulties. Paris, which hosted the games in 1924, was determined to host in 2024. Initially, the budget was $9,5 billion, but it rose to around $11 billion. due to increases in costs.
To host the games, Paris chose to minimize new construction and use existing locations, in addition to installing temporary arenas in strategic points. One of the most notable examples is the temporary arena at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, intended for beach volleyball competitions, with a capacity for 12 thousand people. This arena was built with lightweight and recyclable materials, making it easy to disassemble after the games. Another temporary structure in the same area will be used for triathlon and cycling events.
Other central areas of Paris will also be transformed, with temporary arenas in historic sites such as the Grand Palais, which will host fencing and taekwondo.
Outside the center, the Stade de France will host rugby and athletics events, and the Palace of Versailles will see its gardens transformed into settings for equestrian and modern pentathlon.

One of the few new permanent buildings is the Center Aquatic de Paris, near the Stade de France. This center was designed specifically for the games, with an initial capacity for 6 spectators, which will be reduced after the event to ensure a sustainable legacy.
Another impressive megaproject is the cleaning of the River Seine
The river, which suffers from high levels of pollution, will be transformed into a focal point of the Olympics, both for sporting events such as the swimming marathon and triathlon, and as a symbol of urban renewal. The project includes the construction of a colossal stormwater reservoir beneath Austerlitz railway station, designed to prevent untreated sewage from being dumped into the river during heavy rains.
To improve traffic and ease the public transport network, Paris is expanding metro line 14. This line will connect Orly airport to Saint-Denis in just 40 minutes, with eight new stations and a length of around 15 km.
The New Paris Olympic Village, located in Saint-Denis, was designed to accommodate around 14 athletes during the games
After the event, the village will be transformed into permanent homes for around 6 people, contributing to the revitalization of the area. Paris' megaprojects for the 2024 Olympics represent a significant investment in infrastructure, aiming not only for the success of the games, but also for a lasting legacy for the city.
From temporary arenas at the foot of the Eiffel Tower to cleaning up the River Seine and expanding the public transport network, Paris is gearing up for an unforgettable event.
