Petrobras resumes work on UFN-3 in Trรชs Lagoas after 10 years, investing R$3,5 billion and offering 4 professional training vacancies.

After a decade of inactivity, Petrobras announces the resumption of construction work on the UFN-3 in Trรชs Lagoas, with an investment of R$3,5 billion. The initiative promises to revolutionize the national production of fertilizers and offers 4 vacancies in a professional training program, aiming to transform the regional economy and reduce dependence on imports.

After more than a decade of interruption, Petrobras announced that it will resume construction on the Nitrogen Fertilizer Unit III (UFN-3) in Trรชs Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul.

The project, which began in 2011, had been at a standstill since 2015, when it was 81% complete.

Now according to the RCN67 portal, with an investment of R$3,5 billion, the expectation is that the unit will start operating by 2028.

The investment is not limited to the work itself, but also to the creation of a training program that will benefit thousands of people, strengthening the local economy and contributing to reducing Brazil's dependence on fertilizer imports.

According to the aforementioned portal, the strategic location of UFN-3, close to large agricultural hubs and with easy access to essential resources, such as natural gas and water, promises to be an important logistical differential.

With the resumption of activities at the unit, Petrobras intends to more efficiently meet the demand for fertilizers in the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiรกs, Paranรก and Sรฃo Paulo, regions with a high concentration of agricultural production.

Resuming construction work: more than ten years of standstill

Construction of UFN-3 began in 2011, but was halted in 2015 due to financial and administrative issues.

The unit was already 81% complete, but the shutdown caused equipment and structures to suffer wear and tear over the years, which required new investments to ensure its completion.

The original UFN-3 project foresees the annual production of 1,2 million tons of urea and 70 thousand tons of ammonia.

These inputs are essential for national agriculture, and the resumption of works will allow Brazil to reduce its dependence on imports of these products, in addition to generating greater security in supply.

Petrobras reported, in a note, that the company is currently in the contracting phase for the remaining scope necessary to complete the work.

โ€œPetrobras is in the contracting phase for the remaining scope that still needs to be finalized to complete the unit,โ€ the company revealed.

The expectation is that the works will restart in the second half of 2025, with the total completion of the unit scheduled for 2028.

According to the RCN67 website, the resumption of activities will have a significant impact on the local economy, in addition to promoting the training of professionals in Trรชs Lagoas.

Strategic location: logistical and operational advantages

The choice of Trรชs Lagoas for the installation of UFN-3 is not a mere coincidence.

The city is located in a privileged region of the country, close to major fertilizer consumption centers and with easy access to essential inputs, such as natural gas, used in the production process, and water, necessary for the unit's operation.

The proximity to the main agricultural hubs in Brazil makes Trรชs Lagoas a highly relevant logistical point.

The unit's production will be mainly destined for the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiรกs, Paranรก and Sรฃo Paulo, regions that concentrate the majority of the country's grain and other agricultural product production.

Furthermore, the location allows for a reduction in transportation costs and facilitates the distribution of fertilizers to consumer markets.

The operation of UFN-3 will also contribute to job creation and the movement of the local economy, since the unit's production will add to the growing demand for fertilizers in Brazil, one of the largest agricultural producers in the world.

According to Petrobras, the unit will be a strategic asset for the country and an important step towards ensuring greater autonomy in the production of these essential inputs for agriculture.

Training and social inclusion program

In addition to the resumption of works, Petrobras announced, together with the resumption of UFN-3 activities, the creation of a professional training program in Trรชs Lagoas.

The initiative, called the Autonomy and Income Training Program, aims to qualify up to 4 people in situations of social vulnerability.

The program prioritizes training for residents of the region, offering free courses in the areas of Initial and Continuing Education (FIC) and technical courses for those who have already completed high school.

The program is a partnership between Petrobras, Sesi-Senai and the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology.

During the training, participants will receive a grant, and women with children up to 11 years old will receive a different amount of support.

In addition, the qualification will help meet the growing demand for specialized labor in the oil and gas sector, with a focus on the operation of UFN-3 itself and other company projects.

The aim is to promote employability in the region and strengthen social inclusion, while contributing to local and regional development.

Worker training is a fundamental action to ensure that the operation of UFN-3 is successful, considering that the construction and operation of large industrial projects require a qualified and well-trained workforce.

According to information on the RCN67 website, the training program also aims to expand employment prospects at the Boaventura Energy Complex in Rio de Janeiro, one of the Petrobras units involved in the development of energy projects for the future.

Prospects for the future and investments by Petrobras

The resumption of work on UFN-3 and the training program are part of a larger effort by Petrobras to expand its investments in several strategic areas.

During the Brazil Energy Forum, held in Rio de Janeiro, Petrobras president Magda Chambriard highlighted that the company is accelerating its investments not only in fertilizers, but also in refining, logistics, gas and renewable energy.

Petrobras' planning until 2050 foresees a 60% growth in its operations, aligned with Brazil's economic development.

The company has focused on boosting its operations in essential sectors, seeking to contribute to job creation, strengthening the national economy and promoting a more sustainable and resilient business environment.

The completion of UFN-3, together with the increase in fertilizer production, should bring benefits to Brazilian agriculture and ensure greater competitiveness for Brazil on the global stage.

For experts, the resumption of work on UFN-3, in Trรชs Lagoas, and the launch of the Autonomy and Income Training Program are important milestones for Petrobras and for the Brazilian economy.

The project will not only strengthen national fertilizer production, but will also contribute to social inclusion and the development of new employment opportunities in a strategic region for agribusiness.

By reducing dependence on imported fertilizers and promoting local professional training, Petrobras positions itself as an important partner in Brazil's economic future.
