New unit in Itaboraí strengthens national supply, reduces imports and ensures energy security in Brazil
Petrobras started operating the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) at the Boaventura Energy Complex, in Itaboraí (RJ). The unit currently processes 10,5 million m³ of gas per day, but by the end of the year, this capacity should double, reaching 21 million m³. Therefore, the new infrastructure promises not only to increase supply, but also to reduce dependence on imports.
Security of national supply
Since Sunday (10), the Boaventura UPGN has been reinforcing the national supply, increasing domestic production and thus reducing the need for imported gas. With the Rota 3 gas pipeline, which transports gas directly from the Santos Basin, the unit in Itaboraí guarantees greater stability and security for the gas market in Brazil.
Fundamental products: NG, LPG and C5+
After processing, the Boaventura Complex delivers three essential products: Natural Gas (NG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and C5+ (Condensate). With this, Petrobras strengthens the market with a varied portfolio and, in addition, improves the supply of gas for various sectors, from homes to industries.

More competitiveness and sustainability
For Maurício Tolmasquim, Director of Energy Transition, the Boaventura Complex positions Petrobras more competitively. The unit increases supply reliability and, at the same time, enables advantageous commercial conditions for customers. In this way, Petrobras strengthens its presence in the market and also promotes sustainable supply.
Boaventura Complex: strategic pillar
The Boaventura Complex is therefore a strategic pillar for Brazil, as it reinforces energy security and supports the country's development. Thus, by increasing national production capacity, Petrobras strengthens energy independence and ensures more sustainable economic growth.
Rota 3 Project: flexibility and efficiency
In addition to expanding processing capacity, the Boaventura Complex is part of the Rota 3 Project, which allows for more flexible and efficient operations. This system, in turn, ensures a continuous flow of gas, transported in an optimized manner from the fields in the Santos Basin to Petrobras processing units.
Consumer Benefits
With a larger domestic supply, Petrobras reduces imports and is therefore able to offer gas at more affordable prices to residential and industrial consumers. In this way, the Boaventura unit benefits the entire consumption chain, providing a stable and reliable supply.
The Future of Natural Gas in Brazil
The Boaventura Complex strengthens Petrobras as a pillar in the energy transition and sustainability. In short, the new unit increases the supply of domestic gas, reduces imports and contributes to the country's energy independence.
