Discover how Petrobras is investing in technology, sustainability and job creation with this new billion-dollar contract in the maritime sector.

Petrobras signs billion-dollar contract to charter support vessels

Petrobras, on December 7, 2023, announced a billion dollar contract that will transform the maritime sector through the chartering and construction of 12 Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) vessels. In addition, the total investment of R$16,5 billion includes, above all, R$5,2 billion directed to construction and the remainder directed to logistics operations planned until 2028. In this way, the initiative not only promotes progress, but also reinforces the commitment to innovative and sustainable practices.

Companies Involved and Location of Shipyards

The companies Bram Offshore e Starnav Maritime Services, therefore, were the winners of the bidding process announced on November 30, 2023. In addition, each will build six vessels using their shipyards located in Navegantes and Itajaí, Santa Catarina. In this way, the project simultaneously promotes regional development and ensures 40% local content, which is essential to strengthen the national industry. Furthermore, this effort highlights the importance of strategic alliances between the public and private sectors.

Impact on Industry and Sustainability

Using hybrid propulsion systems that combine electric motors, batteries and diesel/biodiesel generators, the signed contracts bring, in addition to technological advances, a significant impact on the Brazilian naval industry. Thus, they strengthen Petrobras' commitments to low-carbon technologies and, on the other hand, ensure a positive impact on the economy and sustainability of the Brazilian maritime sector. In this way, the initiative reflects a strategic alignment with long-term environmental and social governance practices.
