Petrobras and BNDES launch Restaura Amazônia, a program that will invest R$100 million in the recovery of 15 thousand hectares of native vegetation.
One of the biggest environmental initiatives ever seen promises to revolutionize the Amazon.
Petrobras and the BNDES came together to restore degraded areas, promote employment and transform the economic dynamics of local communities.
This bold plan could be the solution the forest and its inhabitants need for a sustainable future.

The project, called Restore Amazon, was officially announced last Wednesday (13).
During the ceremony, Magda Chambriard, president of Petrobras, and Aloizio Mercadante, president of BNDES, signed an agreement that provides for an investment of R $ million 100 over five years.
Of this amount, R$50 million will come from the Amazon Fund.
The main objective is to recover 15 thousand hectares of native vegetation, especially in critical areas of the so-called Deforestation Arc, transforming it into a Restoration Arch.
Strategic regions for recovery
The program covers seven Brazilian states: Amazonas, Acre, Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Pará and Maranhão.
These territories were chosen for their high environmental relevance and for being home to some of the most degraded areas in the country.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA), the program's actions will include:
- Biodiversity conservation and deforestation containment;
- Protection of indigenous lands and territories of traditional peoples;
- Restoration of conservation units and non-designated public areas;
- Support for small rural landowners in Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs).
The first call for selection of projects will be published later this year, and work is expected to begin in 2025.
Innovative solutions to preserve and transform
Petrobras CEO Magda Chambriard emphasized the importance of the program in tackling climate change and supporting local communities.
“Petrobras is using nature-based solutions to mitigate climate change and increase forest resilience”"he said.
These solutions include environmental restoration practices that not only conserve biodiversity but also promote positive social impacts.
The president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, highlighted that Restoring forests is one of the cheapest and most efficient ways to combat climate change.
He said the program will also have a significant economic impact:
“The initiative will structure local production chains, generate income and create a protection belt to contain the advance of deforestation.”
Expected benefits
O Restore Amazon promises to go beyond simple environmental recovery. Among the main impacts expected are:
- Biodiversity preservation: protection of native species of fauna and flora;
- Improvement in microclimate and soil quality, reducing problems such as erosion;
- Increased availability of water resources, benefiting agriculture and local supply;
- Carbon capture from the atmosphere, essential to curb global warming;
- Generation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, focusing on local communities.
In addition, the program will contribute to the National Plan for the Recovery of Native Vegetation (Planaveg).
Strengthening the environmental recovery production chain and creating an efficient monitoring system are among the initiative's central objectives.
A chance for the future of the Amazon
Restaura Amazônia is more than a preservation project: it represents an attempt to change the dynamics of the forest and the communities that live in its dependence.
With the involvement of major players such as Petrobras and BNDES, the program could become a global model for how to balance economic development and environmental preservation.
However, will the investments and promises announced be enough to curb the advance of deforestation? Or will we be faced with yet another project with good intentions but no real impact? Join the discussion in the comments and share your opinion on the future of the Amazon!

That's the purest truth, Amaro.
It's a great initiative, but those who deforest, including loggers, must be severely punished. If they don't do this, it's just propaganda.
