With a series of initiatives and proposals to expand the Potiguar presence in the national port sector market, the Porto Potengi project aims to expand the Port of Natal and place Rio Grande do Norte as a reference in the national economy.

The Porto Potengi project continues at full steam, seeking to expand the Port of Natal, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and a series of initiatives to expand the potiguar port sector market. Among them is the logistical integration of a trunk railroad, highways, port, airport and Export Processing Zone, aiming to guarantee more quality in the movement of goods.

Port of Natal and the potiguar port sector market can be significantly expanded with the advancement of the Porto Potengi project in the state of RN

Created in 2009 with the aim of placing Rio Grande do Norte among the largest states in the national port sector, the Porto Potengi project is still on the agenda in the Potiguar region and aims to expand the Port of Natal as one of the proposals.

The initiative aims at opening up the regional market and creating a series of new jobs for residents of the northeastern state, in addition to attracting investment to the Rio Grande do Norte port sector.

This is a project that has already managed to prove a series of justifications for its viability, such as, for example, that cargo ships pass under the Newton Navarro Bridge and that, although some passenger ships exceed the height of the structure, this is not a difficulty for an eminently commercial port.

In addition, the Porto Potengi project is also an initiative aimed at sustainability in the port sector, strictly following the international concept of port operation already used in the Mediterranean to minimize environmental impacts.

Another major highlight for the project to expand the Port of Natal and the Potiguar port market is the logistics integration in cargo transport, which is innovative for the segment. This is because Porto Potengi seeks the logistical integration of a trunk railroad, highways, port, airport and Export Processing Zone.

In this way, there would be an interconnected, efficient and much faster flow channel for the movement of goods and large port operations in the region.

Logistic interconnection and growth in the port sector are the main targets of the project for the state of Rio Grande do Norte

Still talking about the perspectives of logistical interconnection that the Porto Potengi project intends to bring to Rio Grande do Norte, the expansion of the Port to the north bank of the Potengi River, will make it possible to connect it to the São Gonçalo do Amarante Airport through a branch railway.

Thus, it will be possible to open a series of new doors for the Potiguar market and develop projects that would not have been possible before, such as the Export Processing Zone (ZPE) of Macaíba, which is already authorized by the Federal Government.

In addition, there would be the possibility of a productive outlet for the regions of Mossoró and Vale do Açu, for mining companies in Seridó, for limestone derivatives in Costa Branca and for the family farming economy in Mato Grande. Finally, the development of the EPZ in connection with the airport and the Port of Natal would make it possible to create distribution centers for large product delivery companies, such as Amazon, Mercado Livre, Shopee, Alibaba, in addition to Correios.

Now, it is enough for the Federal Government, with the government of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, to make it possible for the project to be carried out with the necessary investments and incentives, thus increasing the perspective of socioeconomic growth in the Potiguar region.
