PowerChina will invest R$1,8 billion in Ceará to expand solar energy production and strengthen the energy transition in Brazil.

Learn about the PowerChina project in Ceará, its impact on the generation of clean and sustainable energy, and the impact on jobs and the regional economy.

Since August 2023, PowerChina, a company specialized in energy infrastructure, has started construction of a solar park in interior of Ceará, specifically in the municipalities of Mauritius e Miracles.
This project aims to strengthen clean energy generation and contribute to the energy transition in Brazil, according to the plans of company.

O investment of BRL 1,8 billion is aligned with PowerChina's strategy of expanding its operations in the renewable energy in Brazil, one of the growing markets in the area.
This solar park aims to contribute to the diversification of the Brazilian energy matrix, highlighting the importance of photovoltaic solar energy in the country.

Projected growth and impact on clean energy generation through 2025

In 2025, the forecast is that the park will reach a capacity of 343 megawatts, which represents a significant advance in the generation of solar energy in Ceará.
The project is being developed according to the established schedule, with direct impact on the energy supply for the region's population.

With the completion of the first phase of the project, scheduled for February 2025, the expectation is that the solar park will have the capacity to supply up to 350 thousand homes, according to estimates from ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).

This project contributes to the growth of renewable energy in Brazil, with emphasis on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Increased employment and regional economic development with the construction of the solar park

By the beginning of 2024, the construction of the solar park had already generated more than 1.100 direct and indirect jobs in the region of Mauriti and Miracles.
Those empregos have been fundamental to the heating up the local economy, with a positive impact on sectors such as food, transportation and services.

A Secretariat of Economic Development of Ceará highlights that the project has also collaborated with the inclusion of family farmers in the supply chain, which provides additional income for local families.

Furthermore, the Ceará is becoming a reference in renewable energy, with an environment conducive to the development of sustainable projects that generate value for the population and the environment.

Ceará as a leader in renewable energy generation and attracting international investment

Ceará has stood out, especially since 2020, as a pole of renewable energy, with increasing generation capacity wind power e solar.
The state is recognized for its favorable weather conditions for the production of solar energy, which attracts investments such as PowerChina.

A public policy of tax incentives and support for sustainable initiatives have encouraged new international projects de renewable energy to settle in the state.
These projects are fundamental to meeting Brazil's goals in energy transition e decarbonization of the economy.

Expansion of international investments and partnerships for the renewable energy sector

Governor Elmano de Freitas' visit to China in October 2023 was a milestone for expanding investments in renewable energy in Ceará. During this mission, PowerChina reaffirmed his interest in expand its operations in Brazil, focusing on solar energy.

In addition, the company is seeking new opportunities to install renewable energy projects in the Northeast, especially in Pernambuco, Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte. These actions are aligned with the strategy of fostering technical capacitation and research em renewable energy in Brazil.

Impact of partnerships in infrastructure and sustainable exports in Ceará

One proposal discussed between PowerChina and the Ceará government is to direct part of the solar park's energy to companies in the ZPE. This would allow companies operating with solar energy clean had a competitive advantage in sustainable exports.

In addition, the use of solar energy to optimize refrigeration systems in Ceará ports, such as Pecém and Mucuripe, is being studied. This could transform the state into a sustainable export infrastructure hub.

Growth of solar energy in Brazil: impact on the national energy matrix

According to ABSOLAR, Brazil reached 42,4 gigawatts of installed solar power by April 2024. This represents 15% of the electricity matrix.

Solar energy is a key alternative for diversifying the Brazilian energy matrix, especially in light of the search for cleaner and more renewable sources.

Since 2012, the solar sector has prevented the emission of 30 million tons of CO2. In addition, it has generated 780 thousand direct and indirect jobs, according to ANEEL.

Ceará: a hub of innovation and sustainability in the renewable energy sector

In addition to generating clean energy, Ceará invests in research and development (R&D), with local universities creating more than 40 renewable energy projects.
O Renewable Energy Hub of the Port of Pecém has also been a center of innovation, connecting startups, universities and companies.

These investments in innovation e sustainable technology position Ceará as a sustainability model in Brazil and in the world.
