About the Petrobras REFAP refinery in Rio Grande do Sul

Petrobras' Alberto Pasqualini Refinery (REFAP) is connected by means of oil pipelines to TEDUT (Almirante Soares Dutra Maritime Terminal), in Osório, from where it receives oil, and to TENIT (Niterói Terminal), in Canoas, on the banks of the Gravataí River, where it transports derivatives to the industries that make up the Southern Petrochemical Complex, in Triunfo.

A characteristic of Refap is its huge storage area for raw materials and finished products (in the industrial environment called “tankagem” capacity), which makes it the largest refinery in an area occupied by Petrobras. This dimensioning of the storage area is due to its strategic position, close to important borders (Uruguay and Argentina) and the possible difficulty of supply in the period when Brazil was very dependent on imported oil.

Furthermore, Refap is considered the "Green Refinery" of Petrobras, for having advanced atmospheric emission control mechanisms, an efficient effluent treatment system, a solid waste management model, in addition to extensive green areas in its domains.
