After considering an electric car as a replacement, Renault confirms the development of the new generation of the Clio, scheduled for the end of 2025 and inspired by the brand's most recent models.
Renault surprised the European market by announcing that the new generation of the Clio is on its way, breaking with the initial idea of replacing the traditional hatchback with an electric equivalent. Now, the French manufacturer is working on the sixth line of the compact, scheduled to hit the streets at the end of 2025, already as the 2026 line.
The latest information about the project indicates that Renault is looking to update the hatchback's design, keeping it relevant in a scenario that values both efficiency and modernity. The new generation of the Clio should have slightly different dimensions, possibly longer and lower, following the visual pattern of Renault's latest launches. Inspiration from the Mégane E-Tech and the Emblème concept suggests bold lines, with narrower headlights, a hexagonal grille and a more aggressive front bumper.
Renault reveals new generation of Clio
A rendering released by Spanish website Motor.es previews the future hatchback's appearance in a striking shade of blue, reinforcing the modern identity of the new generation of the Clio. Inside, rumors point to a wide dashboard with horizontal screens, abandoning the current vertical layout. In addition, Renault may relocate the gear lever to the steering column, increasing the feeling of interior space.

Mechanically, the new generation of the Clio will feature TCe gasoline engines accompanied by hybrid systems, delivering power between 115 and 140 hp. A more powerful 160 hp hybrid should take advantage of the Dacia Bigster's powertrain, while diesel options will be left out.
Renault is betting on this strategy after analyzing Clio sales, which in 2023 alone totaled 178.902 units in Europe, a growth of 9% compared to the previous year. This consistency in the market was what motivated the manufacturer to invest again in the hatchback, instead of migrating completely to an electric vehicle.
Polo is also still alive
Renault's decision follows the move of other brands, such as Volkswagen, which also chose to keep the Polo alive for longer before risking a complete transition to electric models.
It cautious approach shows that, despite the growing interest in EVs, the new generation of Clio should still benefit from the balance between more efficient thermal engines and technological evolution, keeping pace with the European market and winning over customers who value tradition, design and efficiency in the same package.
The new generation of the Renault Clio is spectacular.
