The Government of São Paulo has begun construction on two more stretches of the Tietê River, focusing on dredging. R$148,2 million will be invested to improve the river's flow, reduce flooding and contribute to the environmental recovery of one of the state's main river basins.
This Thursday (20), two important work fronts were announced by the government of São Paulo as part of the program Integra Tietê. The Secretary of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics, Natália Resende, and the CEO of SP Águas, Camila Viana, were in Guarulhos to start the second stage of the 3 lot and the so-called Lot Zero, which corresponds to the Pirapora Dam.
These actions are part of the celebrations of World Water Day, celebrated this Saturday (22), and total almost BRL 150 million in investments.
Lot 3: dredging on the stretch between São Paulo and Itaquaquecetuba
Lot 3 of the Integra Tietê includes a section of 11,7 km between the José Ermírio de Moraes bridge, in the capital, and the Três Pontes stream, on the border with Itaquaquecetuba.

- Prevention work remains stalled one year after floods devastated Rio Grande do Sul
This stage will require an investment of R$73,7 million. The resources come from an agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The objective is to remove 520,7 thousand cubic meters of accumulated sediment, in addition to 40 thousand cubic meters of aquatic vegetation and 150 vehicle carcasses removed from the riverbed.
According to Secretary Natália Resende, this work is essential to prevent flooding and improve the lives of those who live in neighborhoods such as Jardim Pantanal and Jardim Helena, in the capital, and Vila Any, in Guarulhos.
"We are launching two more fronts in the IntegraTietê program, which are essential to mitigate floods and improve the population's quality of life.”, said the secretary.
Lot Zero: cleaning of the Pirapora Dam
Another critical point addressed by the program is the Pirapora Dam, in Pirapora do Bom Jesus. The site has more than 90% of its volume taken up by sediments.
The investment in this phase will be R$74,5 million. 252,6 thousand cubic meters of vegetation and debris will be removed, in addition to 250 thousand cubic meters of soil.
The aim is to ensure the proper functioning of the dam's floodgates and increase water storage capacity.
According to the CEO of SP Águas, Camila Viana, these actions are part of a larger plan to modernize the state's water infrastructure. “By facing historic challenges with structured solutions and consistent investments, we are moving forward in building a more resilient and sustainable model for the future.”, He stated.
IntegraTietê program review
Since the start of IntegraTietê, 26 months ago, 2,89 million cubic meters of sediment have been removed from São Paulo's rivers. Total investments have already exceeded R$531 million.
The program aims to universalize basic sanitation by 2029. In addition to dredging works, IntegraTietê also works in areas such as monitoring water quality, expanding sewage networks and environmental recovery of river banks.
The São Paulo government's proposal is to continue investing in actions that bring concrete benefits to the population and the environment, with a focus on preventing floods and improving water quality.
