New electronic tolls are coming to São Paulo! Automatic toll collection, varying rates and a hefty fine for those who don't pay!
The state of São Paulo is going through a extensive modernization of the system tolls, with the implementation of new electronic squares in the free flow model.
Technology promises reduce queues, speed up traffic and make travel more efficient for drivers from São Paulo.
Currently, only three gantries of this type are in operation, but this number is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.

More than 20 new gantries will be installed on highways
The electronic toll expansion project will be led by several concessionaires, such as EcoNoroeste, SPSerra, New Coast, Ecovias Raposo Castello and CCR Sorocabana.
CCR Sorocabana leads the initiative, with 23 new structures planned, eight of which will be in operation by the end of 2025.
Among the confirmed installations, one of the most impactful gantries will be located in the northern section of the Mario Covas Beltway, one of the busiest roads in the state.
How does the free flow toll work?
Unlike traditional tolls, the system free flow eliminates the need for toll booths, as it uses sensors and cameras to record the passage of vehicles and automatically charge the fare.
this technology allows drivers to travel without interruptions, reducing congestion and improving traffic flow.
Another difference is that the fare is proportional to the distance traveled.
In the Rota Sorocabana region, values can vary between $ 0,83 and $ 12,20, while in Nova Raposo the costs range from R $ 0,54 to R $ 4,84.
Discounts for frequent drivers
One of the main advantages of the new system is the possibility of discounts for drivers who use the highways regularly.
The program Frequent User Discount (DUF) grants:
- 10% discount from the 11th ticket in the month;
- 20% discount from the 21th ticket;
- 5% additional discount for those using automatic payment tags.
Drivers can pay fares via applications, dealership websites or through the National Transit License app.
Penalties for those who do not pay the toll
Although the system makes it easier to pass and pay, drivers who do not pay the fare will be subject to penalties.
According to current legislation, failure to pay the toll may result in:
- Fine of R$ 195,23;
- Loss of 5 points on the driver's license;
- Charging interest and late payment charges for delay.
Road modernization and future impacts
The expansion of the free flow system is part of a larger strategy to modernize São Paulo's highways.
According to experts, this technology can contribute significantly to reduce travel time, minimize congestion and improve road safety.
Furthermore, the digitalization of tolls also facilitates inspection and reduces operating costs of the concessionaires, which may open up room for future tariff reductions.
With the implementation of this new model, drivers must be aware of the need to keep payments up to date and monitor dealer updates to avoid unexpected charges or fines.
How to register to pay tolls
Drivers interested in using the tolls free flow without complications must register in the dealership systems or in the application of Digital Transit Card.
The process is simple and allows for automatic payment, ensuring that discounts are applied correctly.
