Shell operational accident in Nigeria could trigger lawsuit
The JIV report concluded that the community oil spill in Nigeria was an operational accident due to equipment failure that affected nearby palm trees and fish ponds, and subsequently recommended site remediation.
This new spill in Nigeria is the latest in a series of oil spills by Shell that have put the multinational oil company at odds with host communities.
One report highlights that Shell has reported over 1.000 spills with around 110.535 barrels of oil or 17,5 million liters lost since 2011, although some experts and stakeholders believe the number could be more real.
