Free course aims to provide comprehensive mental health care with innovative practices. Registrations open from February.

Partnership will be responsible for offering a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals with a new free training course.

The proposal, which is set to begin in April 2025, promises to transform the way mental health professionals, especially those in the Family Health Strategy (ESF), approach comprehensive patient care.

This course, offered by the Professora Valéria Hora Technical Health School (ETSAL) and the National Observatory of Traditional, Integrative and Complementary Knowledge and Practices in Health (ObservaPICS), is a partnership with the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).

The focus will be on training Primary Health Care professionals to act in a more holistic manner in caring for the mental health of SUS users.

According to the information, the difference of this course, entitled “Health and Well-Being: Comprehensive Care for Mental Health”, is the adoption of innovative methodologies based on Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS).

These practices, which are fundamental to promoting a more humanized and comprehensive approach to health, seek not only to improve care, but also to ensure the well-being of the professionals involved in the front line of the SUS.

Training for a new approach to mental health care

The course proposal aims to train professionals so that they can apply more integrated and personalized care to the mental health of users.

According to experts in the field, strengthening PICS in Primary Health Care is essential to promote a more efficient and humanized health system.

With a workload of 120 hours – 96 hours of which will be distance learning and 24 hours in person – the course will be taught over six months.

The distribution of workload will be flexible, with an average of six hours of study per week.

The methodology adopted will allow students to integrate theory and practice, with a special focus on self-care as a starting point for caring for others..

Training professionals with a focus on the territory

Throughout the course, students will be challenged to understand the demands of each territory in which they work, adapting learning to the local reality.

Three face-to-face meetings will be held in the 10 Health Regions of Alagoas, where students will have the opportunity to discuss the main issues that impact mental health in the different regions.

The first stage of the course will be marked by a face-to-face meeting that will serve to present the course proposal to students, provide teaching material and guide them on the use of the Virtual Learning Environment (AVA).

During this phase, study plans will also be formulated, which will be based on the needs of each territory and the specificities of each student.

Registration starts in February

The selection for interested students will open on February 10, 2025, with the link for registration being made available.

According to a the organizers, registration will be simple, allowing health professionals from all over Brazil the chance to participate and benefit from this free training.

The objective is to promote more complete and welcoming care, not only for patients, but also for professionals working in the healthcare system.

The course represents a major step forward in the training of mental health teams, promoting more humanized care, adapted to the needs of each location and, above all, valuing the health professional as a fundamental link in the construction of a more efficient and fair health system.

I would like to participate in the contest. I am a caregiver for the elderly and I have already taken a pharmacy course. Now I want to take this course, which will help me a lot. I have been working in this area for 3 years.
