Scheduled to open in 2025, the new line promises to revolutionize mobility in São Paulo, connecting Congonhas Airport to Morumbi Station.

New subway in SP: Something new is shaking up public transportation in São Paulo: the long-awaited Line 17-Ouro is finally moving forward with firm steps. After years of inactivity, construction has resumed and promises to connect strategic points in the city, such as Congonhas Airport and Morumbi Station, bringing greater mobility and efficiency to the people of São Paulo. With the support of the state government, led by Tarcísio de Freitas, and robust investments, the new subway station is part of a larger project that aims to transform the public transport in the capital of São Paulo.

The return of Line 17-Gold

Construction of Line 17-Ouro began in 2012, but unfortunately, the works faced a series of stoppages and were only resumed in September 2023, after almost a decade of waiting. This line will be 6,7 kilometers long and will have 8 stations, connecting Congonhas Airport to Morumbi Station.

In October 2024, progress began to become visible. Stations such as Washington Luís, Congonhas Airport and Brooklin Paulista are already receiving cup holders, glass and coverings. Additionally, stations such as Vereador José Diniz and Campo Belo have already installed cubicles in technical rooms, while Vila Cordeiro and Chucri Zaidan have made progress in covering platforms.

The role of the Tarcísio de Freitas government

The government of São Paulo, under the leadership of Tarcísio de Freitas, has shown commitment to resuming and completing construction of the new subway in SP. In October 2023, a contract worth R$18 million was signed to continue the project. The Verification Consortium Line 17, composed of the companies Pini Group Brasil Ltda and Metroeng Engenharia Ltda, won the bid and is responsible for several technical stages of the work.

The services included include the installation of signaling systems, centralized control, platform doors, fiber optic networks and power supply. The contract has a term of 29 months, with completion expected within 24 months from the first service order.

Benefits of the new metro station

The new subway station on Line 17-Ouro promises to be a game-changer for mobility in São Paulo. In addition to connecting the airport to other strategic areas, the line will facilitate the daily commute of thousands of passengers, reducing travel time and contributing to more organized traffic.

The stations are scheduled to open in 2025, during Tarcísio de Freitas' term. Until then, progress reports show significant progress, indicating that the project is on the right track.

The SP program on track

In addition to Line 17-Ouro, the state government has launched the ambitious SP nos Trilhos program, which aims to further expand public rail transportation in the state. The project includes the construction of intercity trains (TICs), subways, metropolitan trains and even VLTs (Light Rail Vehicles).

One of the future highlights is Line 16-Violeta, which will connect the main parks in the east and west zones of the city, promoting more integration and accessibility for São Paulo residents.

Under the leadership of Tarcísio de Freitas, São Paulo is experiencing a transformation in public transportation. The new metro station on Line 17-Ouro represents an important step towards modernizing and expanding mobility in the city.
