United States approves sale of 12 Black Hawk helicopters to the Brazilian Army, significantly increasing operational capacity and national defense.

Direct from the United States Department of State, the Brazilian Army has just received approval to purchase 12 Black Hawk helicopters, all armed with powerful miniguns. This acquisition promises to raise the level of defense and operational capacity of the Brazilian armed forces. Developed by Sikorsky Aircraft, Black Hawks are known for their versatility and durability, being the backbone of American Army aviation since 1979.

Black Hawk helicopters are medium-sized utility helicopters, capable of operating in a variety of combat conditions. Equipped with high-rate machine guns, these helicopters provide powerful and sustained fire support. They can be configured with various weapons, including M240H machine guns, Hydra 70 rocket launchers, and Hellfire missiles.

United States Department of State approved a possible foreign military sale to the Brazilian Army

The United States Department of State has approved a possible foreign military sale to the Brazilian Army, involving UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and logistics and support components, with an estimated cost of up to US$950 million. This figure includes an initial purchase of $450 million in major defense equipment and up to $500 million in other equipment and services.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the necessary certification to notify Congress of this possible sale. The government of Brazil requested the purchase of 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, 34 T700-GE-701D engines (24 installed and 10 spares), 28 onboard global position systems EAGLE-M with EGI inertial navigation, in addition to 24 ARC-231A radio systems.

Proposed sale will also advance the United States and Brazil's goal of greater military interoperability

This proposed sale will enhance Brazil's ability to provide troop transport, border security, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, search and rescue, and peacekeeping support. The proposed sale will also advance the United States and Brazil's goal of greater military interoperability. Brazil will have no difficulty integrating this equipment into its armed forces.

Although the acquisition of 12 helicopters is an important step, it is still a limited number for Brazil's needs. However, it is a crucial start to reinforce the fleet of Brazilian Army helicopters. Disaster situations, such as the catastrophes in Rio Grande do Sul, demonstrate the importance of this equipment.
