With a total investment of R$146 million, Niterói is preparing for a new Age in the Brazilian naval industry. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participated in the announcement of the start of dredging works of the São Lourenço Channel, highlighting the importance of the shipping industry for the country's economy and job creation, according to the Brasil247 website.
The initiative, with investments of R$ 137 million from Niterói City Hall and R$ 20 million from Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro, aims to expand waterway infrastructure access to the city's Industrial and Port Complex. The intervention in Niterói should generate around 20 thousand direct and indirect jobs throughout the execution of the work, boosting production in the sectors and increasing berthingand port services. The Port of Niterói expects more than 30% increase in port activities after dredging, in addition to the revitalization of the Niterói Fishing Terminal, which will become a fishing warehouse, benefiting the maritime and generating more jobs and income.
