IPTU exemption reaches thousands of residents: Who can celebrate?

the news that many waited for it finally arrived: End of IPTU for some residents of Taubaté it was confirmed this Tuesday (6). That's right, the dreaded tax that weighs on the pockets of so many Brazilians will be relieved for some lucky people. But who are these lucky people and how will this work? Let's explain everything clearly!

O IPTU (Urban Property and Territorial Property Tax) has always been that annoying tax that no one likes to pay, but which is mandatory. Every year, owners of urban properties receive the dreaded charge, which varies according to the value and location of the property. There are people who pay a real fortune and, of course, complain a lot about it.

Encouraging news for the residents of Taubaté

But today we have a encouraging news for the residents of Taubaté, in São Paulo. According to the 'Guia Taubaté' portal, some residents of the city will be able to request tax exemption. This news is like an early Christmas present for those who need to pay this tax!

Who can request tax exemption?

The exemption is valid for the year 2024, but it is important to remember that the request must have been made in 2023. In 2023, the legislation granted the exemption to 2.200 properties in the city. If you are from Taubaté and did not request the exemption for 2024, don't worry. You can still prepare to request the 2025 exemption. Keep an eye on the deadlines and, as soon as they are published, go to the Revenue Area at City Hall to collect the list of necessary documents.

Let's go to the details. Who is entitled to this exemption? Check the list of criteria that the legislation requires:

Retirees or pensioners with individual or joint gross monthly income within the limit established by the social security system, and who are owners and residents of a home in Taubaté.

Owners of properties provided exclusively for use by the municipality, state or federal government, or designated as historic heritage by the competent authority.

Veterans of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, participants in the 1932 Revolution and peace missions (blue berets), as long as they own a house that serves as their own residence, as do their widows.

Widowed, legally separated, divorced and single women over 50 years old, owners of a home that is their main residence and with a gross monthly income of up to twice the minimum wage.

Owners of housing with popular or rustic characteristics, with a built area of up to 70m² and land of up to 300m², with gross monthly income of up to two minimum wages.

People with physical disabilities who have a home that is their main residence.

And why do we pay IPTU?

good, the IPTU It's not just a government whim to take our money. This tax is used to improve the areas where properties are located. The money raised goes towards infrastructure works, such as parks, streets and roads, as well as investments in essential areas such as education, health and public safety.

So, if you are in Taubaté and fit any of the criteria mentioned, don't waste time! Ask for your exemption and say goodbye to the IPTU. After all, nothing better than having a extra money in your pocket for 2025, Is not it?

This is End of IPTU for some, but who knows in the future we will see this exemption extended to more people? Meanwhile, the residents of Taubaté can celebrate!
