What will the new airport bring to the region?
With over 50 years of experience, Infraero is known for managing 35 airports in Brazil and will now be responsible for transforming Olympia on a tourist and logistics development hub.
But beyond that, what does the arrival of the new international airport really mean for the region?
According to industry experts, this project should attract billion-dollar investments. Preliminary studies by Infraero indicate that construction may require more than R$ 1 billion in investments in infrastructure, with private and public contributions.
Furthermore, the expectation is that the airport will be a strategic point for the cargo sector, connecting the region to important international routes.
This will increase competitiveness and job creation., directly benefiting cities such as São José do Rio Preto e Barretos.
Thousands of jobs in sight
One of the most striking points of this project is the direct impact on job creation.
According to expert estimates, the airport construction can generate more than 5 thousand direct jobs during the construction phase and, later, when it is in operation, the airport will be able to create around 2 thousand permanent job vacancies in various areas, such as administration, security, logistics, food and tourism.
In addition to direct jobs, the hotel sector and the local market from Olímpia should also benefit, with the expectation of generating even more vacancies.
Tourism is another sector that should experience a tree significant.
The city is already known for its hot springs and water parks, and the new airport will facilitate access for tourists from all over Brazil and even abroad, boosting profits in the sector.
State-of-the-art infrastructure and easy access
Located just 20 km from the center of Olympia, the new airport will have strategic road access, such as Assis Chateaubriand Highway and Diogenes Breda Filho Municipal Road, allowing passengers to arrive from different regions of the state of São Paulo with ease.
The location was chosen precisely to guarantee maximum convenience and reduce travel time for tourists and business people.
In addition, the airport will be equipped with a modern infrastructure and ready to meet the growing demand in the region.
According to the preliminary design, it will have the capacity to meet more than 5 million passengers per year, with national and international flights, serving both tourism and commerce.
Investments and expectations for the future from the airport
The construction of the Olímpia International Airport should attract private investors, in addition to federal and state funds.
The government of São Paulo has already signaled interest in financially supporting the project, especially due to its potential to transform the local economy.
The benefits go beyond tourism. The airport will allow the development of new trade routes, facilitating the transport of goods between Brazil and other countries.
This will strengthen the logistics sector, with predictions of a significant increase in the number of companies setting up shop in the surroundings of Olímpia to take advantage of the proximity to the airport.
The objective is to consolidate Olímpia and neighboring cities as industrial and logistics hubs.
Transition and deadlines: when will everything be ready?
Infraero has already started the preliminary technical studies to define the necessary investments and adjustments to the infrastructure.
According to the schedule, the transition of administration of the airport, which is currently the responsibility of the municipality of Olímpia, will be completed within 120 days after publication of the ordinance.
In other words, by February 2025, control will be fully transferred to Infraero.
Now the phase of construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025, with an estimated completion date of 2028. However, the deadline may vary depending on final adjustments and approvals.
The future of regional aviation and its impact on São Paulo
With new international airport, Olímpia and its region will be catapulted to a new level on the national aviation map.
According to analysts, the capacity of attract foreign tourists, added to the logistics for cargo transportation, will be crucial for the development of new production chains e business partnerships.
The airport is still going complement the airport network of São Paulo, which already has important terminals in cities such as Guarulhos, Campinas and Congonhas.
However, it will be the first of this magnitude in upstate, further strengthening the regional economy.
Do you believe that the new international airport in Olímpia will be a game changer for the region's economy and tourism? Does Brazil need more projects like this to boost national growth?
There is an airport in São José do Rio Preto, a distance of 45 km... Does anyone believe that two airports are really needed at such a distance?
Sao Jose do Rio Preto airport is not international, nor is it a cargo airport, and cannot be expanded as there is no space.
The one in Rio Preto is very simple and cannot be expanded. It is not international or cargo.
International Airport very different from Barretos and Rio Preto where there is no structure and space.
I really think a new airport is unnecessary. They could improve the existing ones, such as the one in São do Rio Preto and Ribeirão Preto, which has been waiting for internationalization for years and hasn't gotten off the ground. It's just a little extension here and there, by private initiative, because the government itself doesn't do anything. DAESP, which previously managed it, didn't do anything.
Could it be that Olímpia has enormous tourist potential, has one of the most visited parks in the world and is also close to other cities? No one from outside comes to visit Rio Preto and Ribeirão Preto, which are great cities for business, well served by the airfields they have.
An international airport more than 400 km from the city of São Paulo, the destination of almost all international passengers. Whose idea was this ****?
Olimpia is closer to the capitals of South American countries than São Paulo (except for Buenos Aires and Montevideo). With the stopover option, those who need to go to the northwest of the state do not need to go all the way to São Paulo and back. Olimpia has the capacity to accommodate around 35.000 people per day, making it a well-established tourist hub. With the international airport option, it will be able to attract tourists from all over Brazil and Latin America.
It's crazy to build an international airport in this place. It will ruin the peace and quiet of these cities.
The airport in São Paulo Rio Preto handles about 800.000 people a year! The one in Olímpia is going to handle 5.000.000 people a year (only if they start manufacturing people there). Have you ever heard of a public money sink? Then they complain that taxes are expensive! In time! They're building until they build. I want to see airlines land their planes there.
From China? Aren't they the ones interested in putting a railroad through there?
