In the north of India, the city of Prayagraj is completely transformed every 12 years. During the Maha Kumbh, the world's largest religious gathering, millions of Hindu devotees, ascetics, and mystics come to bathe in the sacred waters of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. A city that becomes the center of faith

The festival starts in 13 January 2025, lasts 45 days and brings together around 400 million people during the event, a number equivalent to almost the entire population of the United States.

Indian authorities such as Rajnath Singh e Amit Shah, as well as international personalities such as the lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin.

Due to its gigantic size, the event far surpasses other religious pilgrimages, such as the Islamic Hajj in Saudi Arabia, which last year received about 2 million faithful.

The comparison shows the size of the spiritual and logistical impact of the Maha Kumbh, a cultural and religious phenomenon without parallel on the planet.

Monumental structure and billion-dollar investment

To welcome the crowd, a seating area 4.000 hectares : on the banks of the rivers was transformed into a temporary city, with complete infrastructure.

The space has more than 150 thousand bathrooms, 3 community kitchens e 11 hospitals, divided in 25 sectors interconnected by roads, power grids and water supply systems.

Additionally, the government has installed communication towers and surveillance centers to ensure security.

All this spread across 40 square kilometers of tents and temporary shelters, which together form a true spiritual metropolis.

O State of Uttar Pradesh, commanded by Yogi Adityanath — a Hindu monk and influential politician — invested more than US$765 million in the organization and infrastructure of the festival.

Billboards and posters with his image and that of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi cover the region, also reinforcing the political character of the event.

Maha Kumbh: Trains, Safety and Technology

The logistics operation is impressive. put into operation more than 90 special trains, totaling about 3.300 trips during the period, only to transport devotees between neighboring cities and Prayagraj.

In terms of security, the place was transformed into a fortress. More than 50 thousand agents were deployed to control the crowd and maintain public order.

The surveillance system includes 2.751 cameras, some equipped with artificial intelligence to measure the density of agglomerations and send data in real time to four control centers.

Other technological measures complement the scheme, such as anti-drone systems e wired drones, used to monitor the public and detect possible emergencies.

Faith, politics and devotion at the world's largest religious gathering

O largest religious gathering in the world is not just a spiritual celebration. It is also an event of political and social importance in India, where about % Of the population 80 identifies as Hindu.

Therefore, leaders and parties see the festival as an opportunity to connect with the faithful.

Despite the disputes and grandeur, the essence of the event remains the same: millions of devotees immersing themselves in the sacred waters in search of purification and hope—a collective act that reflects, on a monumental scale, the strength of Indian faith.
