A new engine inspired by the Yaris GR will be featured in the Toyota GR86. Toyota is betting on a more powerful engine for the model, delivering more than 300 horsepower. The initiative promises to increase the GR86's performance, consolidating it as a respected sports car in the global market.

Toyota, the automotive giant, is preparing a new version of the Toyota GR86, promising to revolutionize the sports car sector with a powerful engine and surprising technological advances. According to information released by the website Carscoops.com, the brand will use a new engine inspired by the Yaris GR, a 1,6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder, to equip the new generation of the model, addressing criticisms about the limited power of the current version.

Powerful new engine delivers 300 hp to Toyota GR86

The 2,4-liter naturally aspirated engine found in the current Toyota GR86, which produces 228 horsepower, will be replaced by the compact and powerful engine already used in the Yaris GR and Corolla GR. This new engine inspired by the Yaris GR represents a significant leap in performance, with expectations that the new model will exceed 300 horsepower, marking a new era for the Japanese brand's sports car lineup.

The novelty of the new powerful engine does not stop there and the new GR86 will also feature a platform from Lexus, Toyota's luxury division, featuring a completely redesigned chassis and saying goodbye to the collaboration with Subaru, which marked previous generations. The result, with the powerful engine, is a vehicle with greater structural rigidity, better drivability and an even more refined finish.

Another highlight of the new engine inspired by the Yaris GR will be the addition of a hybrid system that, in addition to increasing power, promises to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. The combination of the powerful engine and hybrid technology aligns the Toyota GR85 with global sustainability trends without compromising its sporty essence.

New Toyota GR86 to arrive in 2025

Although there is no official launch date yet, the expectation is that the new car with a new engine inspired by the Yaris GR will hit the market by 2025. The model should be a milestone in Toyota's commitment to balancing tradition and innovation, offering thermal and hybrid engine options to meet the demands of different consumers.

This strategy by the Japanese brand reinforces its position as a global leader in the automotive sector, even in a scenario where the automotive market electric vehicles is advancing rapidly. With the new Toyota GR86, the automaker reaffirms its commitment to delivering vehicles with powerful, high-performance engines that combine power, efficiency and driving excitement.

It is worth noting that the last GR86 received great reviews regarding its driving dynamics, but not everything went well. In fact, there was no shortage of complaints regarding the lack of power of the engine, a 2,4-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated, which will soon be replaced. The new GR86 will have space for a 1,6-liter 3-cylinder turbo, the same unit installed in the Yaris GR and also in the Corolla GR. So the update will not be recent.

Toyota announces arrival of new SUV to the market

In addition to the new engine inspired by the Yaris GR, the brand has introduced a new model that could appeal to off-road vehicle enthusiasts. At around 4,5 meters long, the Mini Land Cruiser will have a vintage design that evokes nostalgia, but with modern features.

Its three-door body and larger interior space than the Suzuki Jimmy position it in the automotive market as a practical option for those seeking off-road performance without sacrificing comfort. Under the hood, the model is estimated to be equipped with a 204 hp and 50,9 kgfm turbodiesel engine.
