Toyota ends production of the Etios to make room for the Yaris. Toyota Etios has been on the market since 2012, Brazilians will have to say goodbye to both the hatch and sedan versions.

Another of Brazilians' favorite cars left dealerships on the market this year. Toyota Etios, one of Toyota's best-known and most sold models, said goodbye to customers after 11 successful years. The automaker officially confirmed the farewell of one of its most prominent cars in recent years. Toyota ends production of the Etios – check out the details!

Understand why Toyota ended production of the Etios

Through an official statement, the company explained the reason for the drastic decision to put an end to Etios. According to the automaker, the manufacturer has the flexibility to adjust production capacity according to internal and external demand and market movements.

Toyota ended production of the Etios of both the hatch and sedan models at the Sorocaba (SP) factory on August 31st. Despite the announcement, the company has no longer produced the Etios since 2021, when it began only exporting the vehicle to other countries in Latin America.

According to data from Car Newspaper, the Toyota Etios had already passed the average cycle period, which generally lasts 8 years. Its end also served to provide space for adjustments to the plan of the interior of São Paulo. Space in the production unit was important for the development of a Toyota's new compact SUV.

The launch of the model with a flex hybrid engine is scheduled for 2024. The car that the Japanese company made available to replace the Toyota Etios in Brazil was the Yaris, which has an important line in the Brazilian automobile market.

The Etios was Toyota's answer to the heated compact segment that emerged in the early 2010s. The vehicle arrived together with the Chevrolet Onix and Hyundai HB20, at the end of 2012.

However, even with the backing of the Japanese brand, the Etios did not get into gear for two reasons: its unpleasant appearance and the indefensible central instrument panel. There is a plausible argument for the instrumentation to have been positioned in the middle of the panel. Etios was developed for the East Asian market, where many use English.

However, it should also be distributed in other emerging markets, such as Latin America, which uses conventional handing. Thus, the panel in the center reduced the cost of development and production. All you had to do was change the position.

Interestingly, the Etios X costs more today than it did when it was new. Its launch price at the end of 2012 was 33.490. Currently, according to Fipe, its price is almost R$36 thousand. Of course, it must be taken into account that today's R$36 has much lower backing than the R$33.500 of 10 years ago.

Toyota Corolla 2024 hits the market

O Toyota Corolla 2024 It is already in stores and has its list prices published, ranging from R$150 to R$200, according to confirmation from the automaker itself. The consumption of the new Corolla in the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV) from Inmetro and the surprise is that the medium sedan is much more economical in both engines, even without having updated power and torque.

The new Corolla will continue to be equipped with the 2.0 Dynamic Force aspirated flex engine in the entry-level versions, and with the 1.8 flex hybrid in the top-of-the-line versions. The model's consumption improved between 2% and 10% depending on the configuration and cycle, reaching a peak of 18,5 km/l in the Hybrid configuration with gasoline in the urban cycle.
