Road hazards: 50 people die in road accidents each year

One of the main concerns related to the advances in the transport sector in Brazil is focused on safer traffic, with fewer deaths and accidents. The occurrences per day on the highways of Brazil generate great social and economic costs.

With the loss of lives, there are several traumas generated in society and impacts on the economy. The country registers 14 deaths per day on federal highways and, per year, there are about 50 accidents with victims, most of them involving trucks.

Data show that heavier vehicles are not present in most occurrences. About 60% of accidents involve passenger cars, 40% motorcycles, and only 20% trucks. However, an occurrence involving heavier vehicles creates an even greater risk for drivers, due to the potential impact.
