To reduce dependence on China, the US government is targeting Pentagon bases to accelerate production of metals essential to national security
President Donald Trump has outlined a new plan to strengthen the United States supply chain: installing critical mineral refineries inside Pentagon military bases.
The objective is clear — reduce Chinese dependence and ensure autonomy in essential materials for fighter jets, submarines, high-tech weapons and ammunition, according to the MSN website.
Most of these metals, such as rare earths and other strategic minerals, are currently processed in China, which represents a major geopolitical vulnerability for the US.

Trump's minerals plan also avoids the creation of federal stockpiles and does not impose requirements such as the "Buy American" clause, ensuring greater flexibility in implementation.
US Challenges Ahead
Despite Trump's bold proposal, there are significant obstacles to be faced by the US, mainly related to strict environmental laws, the concerns of the industrial sector and the bureaucracies surrounding the use of US military lands. To date, It's not clear yet how the Trump administration intends to overcome these impasses and make the implementation of the project viable.
