New portal replaces old Covid.gov, criticizes health measures and removes information about vaccines and tests

Trump revamps Covid website and reignites controversy over virus origins
The new website launched by the Trump administration on Friday completely overhauls the content of the old federal portal. Covid.gov. main news is the explicit defense of the theory that the SARS-CoV-2 virus originated in a laboratory in the city of Wuhan, in China. This hypothesis, according to the website, would explain the initial dissemination of Covid and discredits the version of natural origin, previously promoted by global health agencies.
In addition, the portal directly accuses figures such as former President Joe Biden, immunologist Anthony Fauci and the World Health Organization (WHO) of mismanagement during the health crisis. The content also criticizes measures such as lockdowns, mask use and social distancing, pointing out these strategies as ineffective in combating the Covid.

Content about testing, vaccines and treatments has been removed

The change caused concern among public health experts, who see setbacks in the government's information actions.

However, the agency itself classified its confidence in the conclusion as “low,” reinforcing that both natural and artificial origins remain plausible. Even so, the assessment was enough to fuel the current administration’s discourse.
China's reactions and WHO's silence
The Chinese government's response was immediate. In an official statement, Beijing authorities called the allegations unfounded and accused the United States of turning the Covid into a political tool. The World Health Organization, directly cited on the new website, chose not to comment immediately.
