With a shortage of skilled labor in the US, the country is in urgent need of professionals such as doctors, nurses, pilots and more

The United States continues to face a skilled labor shortage, and by 2024, this demand for PROFESSIONALS foreigners should increase even further. With around 11 million new jobs created monthly, many of these opportunities remain open due to lack of qualified candidates, according to data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS). 

Marcelo Gondim, an immigration lawyer in Los Angeles, highlights that this situation creates significant employment opportunities for qualified immigrants who want work in the USA legally, according to the Exame website.

Several factors contribute to the current labor shortage in the US. The rapid recovery of the economy after the pandemic resulted in a significant increase in new companies and startups, attracting foreign entrepreneurs and investors to the country. 

Furthermore, there is a tendency of disinterest among young people in pursuing employment opportunities traditional, such as medicine, education and aviation, while many veteran professionals retired during the pandemic.

The US government provides annual quotas of green cards for qualified foreign professionals, offering employment opportunities in various areas. EB (Employment-Based) visas are aimed at professionals with experience and successful careers, and Brazilians are among those who benefit most from these visas.

  • Doctors: The shortage of doctors in the US is a growing problem, with estimates indicating that 83 million people live in areas without adequate medical care. Demand for physician opportunities is high in states like Florida, California, and New Mexico.
  • Nurses: The shortage of nurses in the USA reaches 1.1 million professionals, especially after the pandemic. California is the state that needs the most nurses, with salaries exceeding $100 annually.
  • Physiotherapists: As the population ages, the demand for physiotherapists grows. Salaries can reach more than $100, especially in states like California and Nevada.
  • Dentists: The shortage of dentists in the US has led to a significant deficit in this area. Annual salaries range from 158 to 208 thousand dollars.
  • Engineers: A shortage of six million engineers is predicted in the US by 2026, especially in the areas of Civil, Automotive and Oil and Gas Engineering.
  • Pilots: The lack of pilots in the USA is critical, with the need for 150 new professionals over the next five years. Salaries can reach 200 thousand dollars annually.
  • Educators: The shortage of educators is growing, especially in states like Washington, Arizona and California, with salaries ranging from 60 to 90 thousand dollars.
  • YOU: Demand for IT professionals in the US is high, with 1.5 million positions available by the end of this year. Annual salaries can reach 300 thousand dollars.
  • Logistics: The pandemic has highlighted the importance of logistics professionals, with salaries exceeding $100 annually, especially for truck drivers and logistics engineers.
  • Businesspeople: The US continues to attract foreign entrepreneurs, with incentives for new businesses in all states, especially for Brazilians, who have founded several companies in recent years.

With a shortage of qualified labor in the US, the job market offers big opportunities for immigrants qualified in several areas. With the demand for professionals on the rise, the United States continues to be an attractive destination for those seeking job opportunities and professional growth.
