The University of São Paulo is accepting applications for Redigir, a free course aimed at those who want to improve their writing and communication skills. Classes are held in person on Saturdays and begin on April 5, with limited spaces available.

You who always wanted to study at USP, but I thought it wasn't possible, now there's an opportunity that you can't miss. The university is accepting applications for the Free course Redigir — a beautiful project, aimed mainly at low-income people who want to improve their communication, writing and even their critical vision of the world.

The new class of the course already has a start date: April 5th. Classes will run until June 28th, always on Saturdays, from 10:30 am to 12 pm, at ECA-USP, which is the university's School of Communications and Arts. In other words: it's in-person, and it's in the capital of São Paulo. But look, besides being Free course, is a great content — with debates, grammar, current affairs and practical writing. All of this with the USP seal.

What is Redigir and why is it so important? USP

Created in 1999, the Free course Redigir was created with the purpose of helping those who were going to take the college entrance exam, offering tutoring in writing. Over the years, it has become a more complete learning space, going beyond writing and exploring the communication as a tool for social transformation. Today, the course is taught by students and professors from USP itself, who work voluntarily.

In addition to teaching grammar and writing, the course encourages students to think critically about social, political and cultural issues. All of this in a relaxed, welcoming and exchange-oriented environment. And best of all, it is a project aimed at those who need it most. Therefore, the selection of participants takes into account family income and level of education.

What courses are offered?

The proposal is unique: the class is unique and the content is very focused, with themes related to communication and language. See what you will learn in Free course from USP:

  • Writing: structure, cohesion and coherence
  • Grammar applied to text
  • Argumentation techniques
  • Critical reading of media
  • Debate on current issues
  • Oral and written communication
  • Textual production
  • Text interpretation

These classes are not “square”. The teachers and volunteers promote discussions, group activities and texts on topics that are actually part of our daily lives. So you really learn, in practice.

How does the selection process work?

Like Free course is aimed at low-income people, USP takes this into account when choosing participants. To apply, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Not having graduated from a public university
  • Be low-income (proven with documentation)
  • Have all documents ready to be sent

Registration is done through an online form, where the candidate must attach proof of education, proof of family income, photo ID and fill in personal details. The selection will be made based on these criteria, so it is worth being thorough and honest.
