In contrast to the futuristic look of Elon Musk's Cybertruck, a carmaker backed by Jeff Bezos has unveiled an electric pickup truck with a more affordable and functional design. The model focuses on simplicity, robustness and a competitive price to meet the needs of consumers looking for practical electric vehicles for everyday use, without sacrificing efficiency and sustainability. The strategy targets a segment that wants innovation without overdoing design or cost.
A Slate Car, the electric vehicle startup backed by Jeff Bezos, unveiled its new electric pickup truck on Thursday. The company is betting on offering an entry-level model that will appeal to both minimalist buyers and those looking for affordable prices.
The vehicle is the complete opposite of Elon Musk's Tesla Cybertruck, which is known for its innovative design and wasurist.
Simple and functional design
The entry-level Slate model focuses on simplicity. The vehicle features a basic dashboard with physical buttons for heating and air conditioning control, as well as cranked windows.

To listen to music, the car only offers a cell phone holder. Infotainment systems and speakers are not standard items, but can be added as accessories offered by the company itself.
Another curious detail is that the vehicle does not come painted from the factory. Buyers will be able to choose to wrap it in different colors.
Furthermore, the original configuration, a two-seater pickup truck, can be transformed into a five-seater SUV using a special kit.
Autonomy and capacity
Slate's electric pickup truck will be available with two battery options. The first, with 52,7 kilowatt-hours, offers a range of about 240 miles. The second, larger option has 84,3 kWh and allows you to travel up to 385 kilometers.
The load capacity is also impressive. The rear bucket measures 1,5 meters long and offers 9,2 cubic meters of space.
The front cargo area, known as the “frunk”, adds another 2,1 cubic meters of capacity.
Price and expectations
Reservations for the new vehicle are now open in the United States. Interested parties can secure their unit with a refundable deposit of $50.
The company expects the final price, already discounted by the US$7.500 federal tax credit for clean vehicles, to be below US$20.00.0. Deliveries are scheduled for the end of 2026.
Slate Auto was spun out of Re:Build Manufacturing, founded by Jeff Wilke, the former CEO of Amazon’s global consumer business. The company raised $111 million in a Series A funding round in 2023. According to regulatory filings, Melinda Lewison, a senior manager at Jeff Bezos’ family office, is on the startup’s board of directors.
