manganese and ferroalloys
Who would have thought that items as different as the battery and the ink would have anything in common? Manganese, the fourth most used metal in the world, is present in the composition of these and many other objects that are part of your daily life.
The mining company Vale is one of the largest producers of the mineral, essential in the manufacture of steel, and also of ferroalloys, combinations of iron with one or more chemical elements, such as manganese itself.
Although almost 90% of manganese production is destined for the steel industry, its applications also include the manufacture of fertilizers, animal feed and cars.
Brazil has 10% of the world's reserves of manganese, behind only Ukraine (24%), South Africa (22%) and Australia (16%).
